And you may notice that some cars have lots of stickers all over to warn
you about the airbag being present. This is more for US consumers who
must be warned enough otherwise if they get hit by the airbag, they will
sue for not 'being aware'! There was one point after the bad publicity
about how airbags seemed to be killing kids that carmakers put in lots of
stickers to warn people so they had no excuse to claim ignorance.

But it can happen that an owner will not know an airbag is present if he
is not someone who knows much about cars and the salesman does not
explain to him. I met one such person in the mid 1990s. He was a Jeep
Cherokee owner and he had one of the units which had been retro-fitted
with an airbag by MBf Automobiles. But salesman never told him at all and
he did not know about it.

One day, he crashed into a lorry head-on. At the moment of impact, he saw
a 'white cloth' coming out of the steering wheel and he honestly believed
that a ghost had come to claim him!!!Big Smile He said that if he had a weak
heart, maybe die of shock if the accident didn't kill him. But the airbag
did save him and he believed in its benefits. In fact, he was the first
Jeep owner in Malaysia to experience the airbag and MBF called a press
conference to let him tell his story.

MBf called a press conference? Shock they must be very prod that their
airbag relly works Big Smile. it didnt work, they a have a lot to explain to the
poor guy (IF he knows about the airbag thingy Wink)

Anyway, i rarely see Cheerokee nowdays... spare parts hard to get? It is
quite cheap for a second hand jeep.

I think when MBf called the press conference, airbags were still fairly
new in Malaysia and it was an interesting episode to share. Besides, they
had just put in the airbags although they were not a actually original
factory fits and used mechanical-based sensors. They were made by a
company in Florida.

Alvin,

Could be just a minor problem on connector, as faced by tnigel before. I
watched the SC mechanic inspected the airbag, they use some diagnostics
tools with monitor (same tool to do engine tuning) & the dignostic monitor
flashed "open circuit at D detected" (something like that). No clue what
that means.

The SA asked me if I have done any wheel alignment outside before as he
suspect your uncle's staff may have accidently touched a very sentitive
cable. Not sure how it is related.Question

BTW, I had to send my car back 3 times before the problem was finally
solved. First time they found the connector was loose/disconnected, they
reconnected back. A few weeks later, the light came on again, and they
found that the connector had the spring clip on one side was
missing/damaged, changed a new one. When the light came on again, they
ordered a new complete wire harness and changed it. Since then no problems.
