Hi guys,
Wondering whether you guys can help me on this one. The wordings and
letterings on the LCD screen of my A4 1.8T is slowly but surely fading
away.I was told by the guys in AD that this is a common problem due to the
weather here.My A4 is only 3 years old. Is this really a common problem ?
I was told that to replace it will set me back by a couple of grands.Any
solutions here.BTW have received the application form for CAM via mail
from Lau but no details on where to submit.

This is not a common problem. Mine is still in great situation after 3
years. Oh yes .. is your car tinted with a v-kool to protect the
dashboard?? Bcoz mine has the v-kool installed.

It can be said it's a common problem cos few of our members had already
experienced this.

This problem only seems to manifest in the CKD A4 Turbos. I have no
problems with the MF display in my Passat without any tinting after 4
years.

Suggest the next time you visit the workshop, have the mechanic put in
some insulation around the meter cluster?
It may help to reduce the unbearable heat that may have damaged the lcd
panel.
Just a thought.

If you're daring enough, you can remove the thing, take it apart and
inspect the contact point between the LCD screen and the circuit board.
Either the thing has lost it's pressure on the contacts or the screen has
died.

If you guys remember we had this discussion some time back. I had 7
responses from 7 turbo owners all with the same problem. On whether or
not it's a common problem I don't know, nor do I care, because it is a
problem.

Sorry to say nothing much can be done except buy a new cluster. I've
tried and hit walls after walls. You might want to try too and see if
you're more successful.

Hey David,

Can you hand me the disused instrument cluster? I'll see if I can do
something about it.

I'll use the same method I use to repair my LCD display problems on my
mobile phone.. a bit of sandpaper, some good quality cleaning alcohol and
a good deal lots of spare time

:P
