Well, I was just looking around for a new car in the exec class for a
friend. Wondering why NOT get a diesel engined car instead of petrol?

For example in Europe the Mercedes E270CDI is very popular, and the
E320CDI as well. Even the S320CDI is often seen and they are coming up
with a S420CDI and even SL420CDI! Imagine a sexy SL with a diesel engine!
Diesel is cheaper; better torque; more mileage; import tax flat 120%. So
what's the downside? Road tax I heard is one but is it really a huge
amount more?

Main reason is also likely that the shear quality of Diesel available in
Malaysia is really quite low. Especially for these new engines going into
Merc the dirt currently in diesel here will cause more harm to the block
than good.

This is partially why diesels that are available new here, such as in a
Rexton are using engine technology that's already a good few years old.

When P1 has diesel car Bodohlah or Najiz will come out to launch it. Then
maybe BodohLand will encourage diesel engine usage.

Maybe Nazak will launch a rebadge Nokia car as it first as BodohLand
first diesel car? Who knows.

We should as Aunty Big Melon this question.

Proton had a 2.0 diesel Wira previously, but not popular. People who
drove those Diesel Wira even kena saman by JPJ for black smoke, thanks to
the high sulphur diesel for Bolehland usage.

MB CDI diesel engine must be used by caution, due to these engine are
comforming to Euro 3/4 spec. Lots of MB CDI diesel are reporting lots of
problem with diesel. Bolehland only Euro 2.

In the time for high fuel price, we should demand govt to change the road
tax structure for diesel cars. Diesel engine is at least 15% more
efficient than petrol engine, i.e. more mileage for a liter of fuel.

In fact, diesel is more expensive than petrol in both Europe and
N.America. The 1.9TDI engine is a very popular engine in Europe, and
almost all Euro car markers have a model powered by the 1.9TDi

Cheers.

diesel only more expensive in UK than petrol, by a few pence. In most of
Europe its about half the price of petrol, that's why more than 50% of new
cars sold in Europe are diesel. US I don't know. Black smoke comes out of
diesel car engines not because of the fuel but becos of the engine
management (or lack of it!). It's unburnt fuel, not sulphur! A lot of
rubbish is talked about in this forum on the quality of diesel fuel in
Malaysia and most of it is bollocks. Diesel fuel here is fine and the most
modern of diesel engines can run fine with it. The "quality" of diesel is
more about emission control which no one gives a shit about here, so
talking about it damaging modern engines, and the Rexton uses "old" diesel
engine design is pure crap. The reason we don't have more diesel cars here
is no one wants to import them because of the ######ed up gov. policy on
Potong etc...

Yeah I guess so, high sulphur will damage de catalytic converter, but
black smoke just about unburn diesel. High sulphur also lead to lower
power output of engine. Maybe the engine just can't get enough power &
torque, then de driver tend to full flood the pedal and cause instantenous
black smoke.

okay einstein, just explain to us how "high sulphur will damage de
catalytic converter"?? which chemistry lesson did u go to? which ones did u
miss? And how exactly does high sulphur lead to lower power output of
engines? maybe de dumb drivers' always mashing da go pedal, cos dats da way
dey drive! So de car makers make da engine management for da dumb driver so
dat dey dont squirt more fuel in da engine, its called the ECU,duh, kinda
protect dem dummies from der own stupidity!
