Abolishing the AP system?

To certain people, especially the politically elite few, that would be
like killing the goose that lays the golden egg......

APs came into existance when the government realize that there were lack of
interest in Bumiputeras who were involved in the automotive side. These APs
were then issued by the government to promote the importation of vehicles
into the country to the Bumiputeras and were ONLY issued to Bumiputeras or
a company which is at least 70% (I think) owned by Bumiputeras. However
many Bumiputeras saw this as an opportunity as a get rich scheme and
applied to as many APs as they could and then sold them to others who used
this APs to import cars. These APs fetched up to RM50,000 a piece or
perhaps even more. Thanks to our "fat-lady" Rasuah Aziz's crony ministry,
it has made Tan Sri Nasimuddin as the AP holder king.

The only one advantage of the AP is successfully making a few Bumiputeras
filthy rich (while legally stealing from everyone with that shitty piece of
paper).

Hi there all,

For you info each and every Malaysian citizen is entitled to apply for 1
AP in his lifetime (if I am not wrong) to import a vehicle (car or
motorbike) for his own personal use and on condition that upon
importation the car/bike is registered under the importers name and not
to be sold within 3 years (or so). So if you one to import any car of you
choice you can go to MITI to submit you application. Of course another
way around this is to make use of the services of unscrupulous AP holders
for a fee of course. But if you reall are in need of one I'd suggest that
you apply for it on your own.

About people getting rich over APs thats a different ball game
altogether. This is a business/political arrangement.

And of course there are various other types of APs which you can apply
for the importation of restricted materials such as Motorcycle Helmets,
Fire Arms, barites, fireworks etc. etc which you can read in the Royal
Customs Schedule of Restrictions.AP =(approved permits or import permits
as they are generally called).

xv1100,
AP entitlement to all citizens is only issued if you stay overseas for
not less than a year and the car has been registered under you name for
not less than 6 months prior returning to Malaysia. Other than those
conditions, there is no way for a Malaysian entitle to obtain the paper,
may be and unless you have a very special connection with the fat lady.
Do not know till when we have to leave in this type situation?

The AP system is a perfect example of the "rent-seeking" culture that our
pm is trying to abolish...

profit making of the highest order without any actual work involved,
rafidah and her AP cronies are laughing all the way to the bank.

Principle's like Ford, Honda Chevorelet, are forced to used importers who
have large allocation's of AP's. If you were to go to kota kemuning, you
will find the Weststar/atlantic Star yard, packed with
Ford/honda/chefrolet.....no work involed just making money from the
selling of AP's to principles.

What sort of stupid system allows 2 sen bumi companys 1000's of AP's but
leaves principle automakers with tiny numbers of AP?

jwrx - indeed these are the kinds of culture that needs to be abolished...
but the question is will they? I really thought that this was something
that was being considered for abolishment, but for the life of me cannot
locate any materials to point towards this direction.

The frustrating thing as a motorist / consumer, we are at the mercy of
policy makers / AP holders who conspire to control the prices of vehicles
in the country.
