Hi,
not performance oriented. following my advice, My bro has just recently
used Mobil 1 fully synthetic on his 5000km Iswara. What intervals do you
all recommend before the next oil change? I was 10,000km instead of the
normal 5000..........but i don't like using the same oil for too long? so
is 10,000km ok??...mosty kl traffic...with occasional trip to Melaka and
Johor.
when i come home next week, i plan to change the gearbox oil to
synthetic as well? anybody using this?? what brand to go for and wheere in
KL can I get it done? Torco? Redline?
cheers.

Hi,
For the synthetic gear oil....there are a few brand but i recommend
chemlube (if correctly spell). The price around 60-70 per litre. So it
depend on your car, different car need different volume of gear oil. Just
check your car manual.

10000kms is OK but you should change the filter in between (5000kms) if
possible. I used to run Mobil 1 in my '89 Laser S 1.5 hatchback for
20000kms and the oil is still OK.

dive an Iswara wnna use expensive synthetic gear oil? Like u said yrself,
you're not preformance oriented, my advice to u is save yr money,
the "extra" protection given by synth gear oil is all in the mind, it
won't make a difference in yr driving experience, or add "additional"
lifespan to yr gearbox.
i dare to say, same goes for using synth on normal run-of-the-mill daily
drive cars. it's a waste of money. if it makes u feel better, just change
the (mineral) oil and filter every 5000km.
... shd still work out cheaper than using synth!
just my personal views of course ... what do i know?!

whitenite,
Synthetic gear oil does have its merits, although they may be expensive.
The proton manual gearboxes are inherently notchy, because the syncromesh
are small in size. Gear oils like Redline MTL have a very balanced
coefficient of friction, thus the immediate improvement would be a much
less notchy gear shift quality. I would rather pay RM100 than to drive a
car with a notchy gearbox daily in KL...
