Hope someone can shed some light. My GTi has difficulty starting. Battery ok, It cranks so starter ok but it takes a while of cranking before the engine fires. Even then it stutters initially as if it is starved of fuel but after that it`s ok until I shut the engine and try to start again. Changed the fuel filter already. Inclined to think its the fuel pump but engine has power whatever the revs. So could it be the throttle body and/or ISC unit? Though idle is stable it occasionally drops to abt 500rpm(a/c on) Most of the time it stays at 750 or so rpm. Your views? Thanks.

You did not mention whether its a hot start or cold start problem.
Sounds like there might be a problem with the engine coolant sensor to the ECU (resistance may be wrong)...
Or possibly a problem with your ISC...
Or possibly your TPS is wrongly adjusted...
Where are you based?

It happens both when starting cold and hot. Don't think it's a TPS or MAF sensor problem cause my check engine light doesn't come on and power is normal. I'm in klang valley. Previously my rpm was unusually low all the time so I had the inside of the throttle body sprayed And wiped with wd40 idle went back to normal. But the starting difficulty persisted. Was told good chance it's throttle body and/or ISC problem. However my idle doesn't fluctuate.

Changed my plugs already. Next?

A misadjusted TPS will not show a check engine light. The ECU just won't know when the throttle plate is fully closed, which is what its expecting when cranking an engine.
During cranking of the engine for start, a few things are happening, all controlled by the ECU.
1) The ISC is stepped opened to enable idle up to occur
2) The ignition timing is set to a specific angle for starting the engine
3) The injectors are pulsed for a richer mixture to aid starting
If any of the above is missing, you will encounter difficult starting.

Definitely not idling up well. Idle drops when I turn on the lights or when the a/c is on. Sounds like the ISC.

i face the same problem on my 1.5GLi A/B yr 2002 model. Sometimes got crank sound but cannot start, sometimes no cranking at all.

Sounds more like a distributor problem. Have you presented your case to the SC technicians?
I had that problem with my last Satria 1.3 and changed so many things until I discovered through the SC Techs that it was the distributor.

according to a fren who work in EON service center, he ask me to have the throttle body changed! he say the siemens type giving a lot problem. i am just lazy to go to PE service centre again. how many days of A/L we have to take to fix all this small problem!
