Hi Rumano,
I owned an Opel Vectra 2.0i 16v (1994 Model) or known here as Opel Vectra
A. It is a very nice car to drive (some call it a poor man's Merc and in
UK (Cavalier)it's known as a salesman's car). When we both were "young" I
really drove it very hard and fast on the highway, once I clocked 1 hr 45
mins from Subgei Besi toll plaza to JB toll exit. It was very stable and
roaring to go.

Now, 10 years later we both are "growing a bit old" and driving pattern
has changed to the type you know what I mean.

Anyway, I am also looking for some reasonable spares and replacement parts
such as Coil Spring, Absorber, Ball Joints and Lower Arm Bushings. Ori
parts are very expensive here and some are not readily available. So if
you know of any "lubang" I would appreciate you sharing with us here.

CheersCool

three spare parts shop sells Opel parts at a very reasonable price
Jit Soon and S.T Auto at Kompleks Damai,Jalan Ipoh and Ampang Auto
somewhere outside Ampang Point.

But have to say, Ampang Auto is the cheapest of the lot, talk to Kim he's
an expert on Vectra parts and he's willing to sort u out.

Timing belt kit and timing belt set is only RM 330 for Vectra B 2.0
its about 600+ at Jit Soon or S.T. Auto. but u''ll get japan made bearings
from Ampang Auto.

Lets compare prices Ampang Auto/Jit Soon/Opel

Engine Mounting : 350/440/600+
Top Mounting: 160/220/300+
Gearbox Mounting: 280/350/500+
water pump: 150/160/360
thermostat: 150/150/300+
FanBelt Tensioner 280/360/500+
top head set 220/280/500+
valve 30+/60+/150

other prices, not so sure try tanya Amapang Auto again

Ball Joint and Lower Arm set, comes together about 500
Absorber ,sachs brand , about 200 each
rear knuckle, 4 of those, 150 each.

u guys got any other lubang? hows the prices in JB/Singapore?
I' am told its even cheaper in thailand since there is a GM factory there,
how far this is tru i dunno.

can anybody help me out with my overheating problem? yet again!!!

took out the radiator and serviced and flushed it
changed new thermostat, after that took out the thermostat to make the
water flow direct.
rewire the fan, so that it goes high speed at 95 instead of 100.

i am told by an opel technician that u need to rewire the fan so that it
gets the correct voltage/amp/wattage.

another 'pomen' told me it could be the small diametered hosing from the
spare tank to the engine (might be blocked/tersumbat) or it could be a
modified water piping to the heater(u want it standard)

going at it this week.

anybody got any ideas???

hi zerohero2,

thanks a lot for the information especially the pricing comparison, it was
really very helpful.

in regards to your overheating problem, these are what i can think of
apart from you eloborate above.

1) always use anti-freeze coolant. i was told by opel tech that the
ecotech engine and cooling system is critical to the type of coolant used.
do not use japs or other coolant type. in my case, i always use volvo anti-
freeze coolant which cost about RM28 per litre and follow the instruction
of mixture as required in the label.

2) check (visual) by looking at the reserve tank (do not open the lid of
the reserve tank) while the engine is running idle whether there is an
inflow (continuos smooth flow) of coolant back into the reserve tank from
one of the hose coming from engine side. try increasing the idling and you
should see more volume of coolant inflow compared to idling situation. if
this is visible than i believe you do not have clogging problem.

3) check also your spark plugs....if your last pomen used the correct type
since your last service or spark plug change. i had one bad experience
whereby this trusted pomen put in cheap and not to spec spark plugs and
caused my engine to overheat until the engine icon light up. spark plugs
plays very important role in dissipating heat in the engine. the correct
spark plug to use for Vectra 2.0i 16v is BOSCH type with code No: FR 8 LDC
cost about RM15 per pc.

normally the temperature indicator at the dashboard should be around 92
degrees C even in city driving.

well, check out the above and i hope it helps in solving your over-heating
problem.

cheersCool

thanks spinergy, that was really helpful.

my car is in opel now, two days and nothing has been done, lets see what
they have to say!!

anyways, im using original opel brand plugs bought fron jit soon at RM55
each. and if im not mistaken, there is a smooth flow of coolant from the
engine.

if those opel guys give me some fancy answers, probably im going to try
your suggestions: flush the radiator and use anti freeze coolant and new
bosch spark plugs.

anyway im letting go of my beauty, vectra b 2.0 96, tip top except fer
the overheating problem at 40k, so if anybody is interested give me a
holla!
i just cannot bear driving and looking at the temp gauge all the time

having said that, its superb car!!! yes it is!

Own a vectra A. Had that problem before. What I did ? I changed the fan and
the radiator with brand new genuine parts. Cost about 3k. No problem ever
since. In fact, the needle rarely leave the blue mark.

I know someone who also owns a Calibra. Dunno anout the original owner's
manual, but I'm pretty sure he has the Haynes manual for it.

Opel owners are a rare breed on AW.

Saw a few Vectra A halfcuts at Hakitrade in Subang on my last visit there
a few weeks ago. Whatever you do, avoid the young lady there.... damn
kiamsiap one... I kena already... begged for lower price, after a good 20
minutes pleading she gave me RM10 off her RM250 asking price... nah bei...
