more questions ah...

when is it time to change the brake discs?

from my own limited knowledge on cars, i assume
that the discs need changing when ...
warped/bent/bengkok ?

other than that ... perhaps the discs just need
skimming( if at all ) or the pads need changing,
right???

do comment.

usually, the discs are skimmed (only once in its
lifetime) if they are warped... if that doesn't solve
the problem (of which it usually does solve) then you
change the discs...

lifetime of the discs will depend on the type of
driving you do, and as i highlighted in another thread
the combo of the disc and pads... stiff/hard pads will
wear away the disc faster... also depending on disc
type... "soft" disc will wear away faster... hard disc
will wear away slower...

hard pads + hard discs = less wear & tear & unreliable
braking (and you end up BREAKING...)

hard pads + soft discs = more W&T on the disc but
better braking

soft pads + hard discs = more W&T on pads and better
braking

soft pads + soft discs = MOST W&T... hehehe no ler...
depends on your driving ler... but best breaking..
(oops!!!) BRAKING...

i think my theory is more or less correct ler... if
not then pls whoever knows more about braking and
brakes correct me... tq.

oh wait... silly me.... i haven't answered your
question... you change your discs when you see that
the disc is thinning out... the mechanic will be able
to advise you when you change your brake pads...
usually after the 3rd or 4th change you'll be changing
the discs... (if you are not changing then maybe you
should...)

I was about to ask about the brake discs as well. I
have changed my ZX front brake pad to Valeo couples of
months back after I did not feels the grip anymore
with the former brake. Initially it has an annoying
strong whinning noise when I apply the brake. The
mechanic skim the edge of the pad. It was okay for
while then the noise comes back. One mechanic says it
is common for Citroen. Is it true? Why is it I do not
have this problem when I use the car for the first 2
years? Now the mechanic says my brake disk is not
even. He recommend to replace is. Check at Asli it
will cost RM240 for a pair. Is it good price? Do you
think skimming will do? how much does it cost. If not
far from buying new ones, might as well replace it.
How about the brake pad itself. From your experience,
which brand is better. Valeo or Bendix ? Thanks is
advance for any advise.

Hi there .... Valeo, Bendix & Metal King ... well if
you were to ask me. bendix & metal king is quite
established for their great brakings as they are the
soft types. But i think the $$ not so soft ler.
Valeo ..the last i was quoted from PH Auto was at RM85
per pair front and a little higher for rear. Since
Valeo is the original part brand for Citroen, well i
guess better use Valeo. Furthermore the price is
cheaper.

Never ever use DON ..... agreed with Vonnig. It'll
gonna BREAK your car if not your ribs and neck !
heheheheh .........

I'm facing problem with my dics rotor now. When step
on the brake .. can feel my foot and the steering
vibrating hard. I think the disc rotor has worn out
and warped.

Anyone knows a good price for disc rotor ? Share your
thoughts ...

hello guys...

sorry to ask this again...

RM85 should give me new brake pads for the front
left and right?

I could be mistaken to think it's RM85 for the left
and another RM85 for the right???

do correct if i'm wrong.
