zul405,
I think it might be pretty close on acceleration, but the ZX should have better torque, although the gti revs higher and on paper produces more power.
In cornering, i think a well driven gti will most definately outgrip a zx....i would like to share my own experience, perhaps others might disagree:
i had a little run in with a gti on the way back from shah alam, and we approached this steep downhill corner..i was pushing pretty hard, doing way above the speed limit, but i backed off the pedal as i felt the tail of my zx start to unsettle and twitch a little..the satria driver didn't even brake, carried enormous speed into the turn and the car seemed to be in perfect flow, no signs of nervousness as i watched it from the back. Handling by lotus nak dikatakan..
He was a good driver and showed what the gti is capable of..
The truth is even before that, I've been tempted to get a gti..it has loads of aftermarket potential compared to citroens...but then i remembered how protons are always being stolen, satria gtis having their bodykits ripped off, and thought "maybe not..."

nistelrooy.. that guy probably had uprated springs and absorbers... also it comes shod with 15" rims... so if you're any less then i guess it is only the wiser to back off... sometimes a run like that is not worth the risk... nowadays... i do back-off from challenges and just let anyone crazy enuff to go fast, pass by... not worth it... this is esp so in blind corners.... you never know what the hell may be waiting for you around that bend... probably a broken down truck or bus... even a kancil... i mean you're doing something like 120km/h - 140km/h around a corner and then something like that is right at the end of the corner... and you've just exited the apex and are accelerating... what do you do?
i almost had a experience like that but as i approached the corner i decided i'd better not and slowed down... to my shock, surprise and subsequent relief... a lorry laden with sand had broken down just around that corner which i wanted to fly in and out of... and this was on the LDP... so after that... never again did i ever do so in a blind corner... if i dun know what is on the other end... i'd slow down...
so... i've out cornered GTis before... i simply love IPOH... heheheh if you get what i mean... and that was before i had upgraded to 15" rims but downgraded 2nd hand shocks leaking oil (after a few months of usage) that have lasted a year and a half leaking... (advantage of using originals...)
also for cornering... you've to rely on pure guts and stupidity... hehehe... and i admit to having that when i'm all flamed up...

vonnig,
I've experienced something similar to you...on the way to serdang from sri petaling, theres this wicked corner which i enjoy taking flat out.
It just so happened one day I was in a lazy mood so i took the slow lane, and it just so happened right after the apex (it was a blind corner), there was this broken down lorry...i wuzz sooo lucky.
The trick is to match vision with speed. If you can see through the corner, go ahead and have a blast. But as for blind ones, its best to tread carefully.
Sometimes i do get heated up, when some boy racer whips past me..u know the feeling...your right foot gets itchy...hands hovering over the gear..and i've done some stupid things too, but lately i've been more sedate..maybe i'm getting too old for all of this.
BTW, i'm using 15 inchers, wrapped with 195/50 michelin tyres. previously used yokohama, but i find the michelins better.

yap i spend about rm 700 for all these item..
lower arm bush
ball joint
4 brake pad and services brake piston.
service aircond,refill gas etc.
stblll,
that's normal things when you buy secondhand car,
you must spend money to make it tip top..
If lucky ,nothing to spend for repair ..

hi Zul405,
Share with us your ride on your ZX.
Power, handling, fuel consumption, built quality, and things to watch out
before getting a 2nd ZX.........
BTW, how much you pay for the ZX, year of production, injection or 16
valve one ?
Thanks in advance.
