This must had been answered many times. But as a refresher, please advice.

The norm is change conventional engine oil 3 months or 5000km whichever come first.

I covered 5000km in 4 months. Is it OK to change the oil only when it reaches the 4 th months.

Please advice.

If you had read your owners manual you would know the norm is 10k km or 6 months interval.

Only if you are driving under severe manner it is recommended to be half of the servicing frequency but rest assure most of us I can imaging 98% of us would be normal drivers.

The usage of Conventional or synthetic oil does not matter. What matter is the API rating, currently the highest rating is API-SN.

Most car manuals actually recommends a lower grade then SN.

What you have been advised by your service center to do servicing every 5k km if using conventional and every 10 k km using synthetic oil is misleading and unethical. They want more business that's all.

I cringe every time, I see advertisement that says the service interval has been lengthen to 10 k km, it was never lengthen , it was just the service center intended misinformation to increase turnover for their business.

For example local Honda say it is 10 k km service now but it is 12 k km service interval in Japan, same engine but that did not stop them boosting about the so called " new service interval"
