I'm planning to get a new car where Accord & CRV had been in my favorite list.
As second value is one of my consideration I went on to check on the second hand market value for both 5 & 7 year-old units,
to my surprise, I found that Accord is having slightly lower value for the 5 year-old range & is much lower then CRV for the 7 year-old range.
Anyone could explain the rational behind this phenomenon?

CR-V got no competitor for many years, only until Mazda introduce the CX-5 few years back to compete with CR-V. Koreans had never be able to get close to CR-V sales, not anywhere close.
As for Accord, you have a very big and strong competitor --> Camry
Yes one of the reason is also like #2 said the SUV is popular nowadays.
