I plan to either get a Peugeot 508 or a Passat.
The maintenance is certainly a big concern for me. But since both provides 5 years warranty, I think that is good enough.
After 5 years ... we'll see what happens. Enjoy first .... hehehe ...

Just from maintenance point of view, which is a better car ie. cheaper to run and maintain ... say for the first 8 years. Servicing + change of parts?

I like 508, but Passat seems to have better built quality. But will the parts last longer?

I went to both Peugeot and VW service centers. I can see technicians in VW are more responsive, have better knowledge and provide excellent service. Having said that, I can see that many VW cars at about 1 year old needed to change parts. Such as the clutch (I saw one Polo and one Passat), battery (Passat CC), electronic steering pump (Polo) and battery (Golf). All these parts are above the RM1k mark (yes, even for the battery). Peugeot ... I see most of them just go for normal servicing and a few people complaint about the cabin dashboard noise.

to be honest. Both VW and Peugeot in Malaysia have poor service.

but amongst 2 poor service centres, which is better?

i think VW is slightly better.

both these are are sub-premium cars. they are almost premium but not premium. so you wont get Merc, or BMW service.

you are right. I'm one of those unlucky one. I bought a brand new passat 1.8. very fuel efficient car avg 900km per tank or 8l/100km. nice to drive until odo reaches 23652km coolant leaking dashboard light up 'check coolant'. when car stopped no leak. leak when the car was moving. send back to SC and claimed under warranty for a brand new water pump. then gb recall small matter reflash software done. sold the car at 26k km. later at 30k the new owner(still keeping in touch) tell me gear change not smooth back to sc clutch changed. I now driving toyota. lol smile_thumbup.gif

Haiya .. I'm a die-hard Camry driver for over 10 years. Time to change my car.
Am thinking about upgrading to conti for the first time - 508 or Passat.
New Camry is no longer desirable. Accord is non the better.
But with what you have just mentioned ... how to follow the heart now??? Haiyaaaaa ....

Take a chance? 5 years warranty .. wor ... but still a huge risk!

Maybe .. should think about Mazda? Decision, decision, decision ....
