my test drive review:
today I go back to my hometown segamat proton showroom to test rexona CFE and submit loan document.
Since this is my first time test drive on CFE, i not so dare to push harder like we normally do(pai seh mah)... When I press slowly when entering the main road, rpm around 1k-2k, immediately feel that this rexona is too heavy and move slowly.... when SA saw this, he ask me to push harder and no need to shy shy lar, hantam aje...
so, SA give permission alr and straight away press till 3k++ rpm, immediately can feel the turbo kick in...
SA request me turn into petrol station to refill, while he is refill, i am waiting in car and testing on radio, autoflip mirror, door lock and knock here knock there... esp center console,it's feel solid and not like those basher mention got kik kok sound.... later knock on the door panel, feel like it is a bit plastic but still acceptable.
after refill, I straight away press the pedal till 5k++ rpm, speedo straight away boost timm 110km/h++ in few seconds... combination for CVT and low boost is really good, it is so smooth... Since CFE boost around 2k-4k, u cant really feel the turbo lag... response is very good... Alot people complaint that rexona CFE turbo whinning sound is too loud, but for me it is just normal compare to hilux 3.0 VNT turbo kickin whinning sound.
after that reach a small hill, no need to revv kaw kaw..
after the hill, I straight away press pedal till end, turbo kickin, whole vehicle like being push harder and speedo reach 120-130km/h... but I notice that after it's rpm climb till 5k++, it's wont aggressive like previous turbo kickin...
after that "drift" time, I hard brake 1-2 times when it's around 130km/h, then push harder pass the sharp corner, there is no understeer feeling.... but rear suspension got yik yik sound... (that time my SA both hand hold tight tight on the handle and keep on mention said this engine very powerful, this engine very powerfull)

after test for 2 rounds, go back to showroom... testing on the reverse camera...(there is a forummer said when after high revv and engage to reverse, engine will die )... i tested, engine still running when i engage reverse, only notice that reverse screen color is too fade. I forget to revv the engine till 4k++ during N, becoz there is forummer mention that in "N" mode, CFE only can revv till 4k.
Submit loan alr, interest is 2.88% ... SA said 1st car they receive will reserve for me since i book it around june.... (gila kah?? is june 2011)

here is my previous review before test drive
interior
1) center console and steering better than MC version, finally understand why darren mention the steering defect for 1st model.
2) not so satisfy on the leather seat, if nappa leather then nice...
3) rear view mirror dont have ECM, only got a layer of coating...
4) the bonnet opener still so lousy. (similar to saga 1st version)
5) door panel combination is very nice for bold premiim, chocolate leather really nice...
exterior
6) 16" rim is very nice and match the exora.
7) rear light better than MC version
8) bodykit really is killing... dam good design..
9) Ecotint is too clear... workmanship also not good, can see dust inside.
Engine
10) CFE turbo unit seem locate too high position... if u compare to VW TSI, their turbo put at bottom
11) Those piping to turbo unit seem like very thin, not sure can tahan the pressure or not.
12) Disc brake is bigger than previous version esp front. 4 disc brake, shiok wei...
13) alot intercooler... p1 really put a lot effort to solve overheat issue (CFE timeline drag becoz of overheat.)....
Frankly speaking, with this kind of price in malaysia, I can say it is worth for money (to those p1 basher, dont come and talk bout tax ok?)
although there is still have room for p1 to improve, but for this upgrade version, i can feel the proton intentions and sincerity to improve this product...
It is not a so-called facelift or wat wat special edition like other brand(changing bodykit and increase $$$). This rexona is really a upgraded version exora in term of performance + outlook + interior ... 4k difference compare to previous version and u get 4 disc brake, CFE engine, 16' rim, brand new bodykit...
good job for p1...

Tested Exora bold, like it very much. I am a slow driver, to my opinion MPV is not the type of car for speeding but for space, power and comfortable. Tested old version previously, just cannot find the power so decide to wait. Tried on highway with 3 adult (me, wife and salesman) and 2 kids, maintaining 80 km/h and RPM remain at 2000. Try to rev up to 110 km/h and RPM maintain at 25000. It is quite close to my current city idsi, as the result I have placed my booking and salesman gives me rm500 discount. Anyone place booking and enjoy better discount? My friend told me can get rm1000 discount and additional gift like better tinted screen.

Thank you to profkaizan bro...

It was an atrocious translation done using Google machine translation program !
Let me attempt a better one [with some origonal Chinese text missing and some Ah Beng lingo..I must admit that I ahd put in some guess work ] Full English translation as follows:
Let’s talk about my impressions:
Today, under a hurried mode, I went to take a look at the actual car.
INTERIOR:
[1] The center console and steering designs are better than the previous designs. With this, I finally realized why my friends had commented on the previous designs as defective.
[2] I am still a bit unsatisfied with its leather seats. If they come in Nappa Leather, that will be prettier.
[3] There is no ECM on the rear view mirror, yet the coating is still acceptable and not really painful to the eyes.
[4] The bonnet release knob is still ugly
[5] Door panels’ color scheme is very pretty, especially that brown strip blends very well
EXTERIOR:
[6] Rims are matching
[7] The rear light clusters are better than the previous design
[8] The body kit is striking
[9] The ecotint is quite thin, looks like it has never been tinted at all, and done with bad workmanship with some dust particles being trapped within. [anyone knows about its IRR?] Looks like I need to spend some money to redo it.
ENGINE:
[10] The turbo seems to be set at a higher range
[11] Those few turbo inlet piping seems to be very thin and flimsy
[12] Looks like they have fitted bigger disk brakes. The 4 disk brakes are very captivating.
Frankly speaking, with such a price, it is considered OK in Malaysia ….[Those P1 bashers don’t argue with me, OK?] Even though, there is still room for improvements, nevertheless such upgrading makes me feel that P1 is sincerely trying to improve.
Since I didn’t have enough time to test drive, I will do so on Tuesday and trash it kaw-kaw !

Test drives 3 times over few days...and here's my opinion...
First test drive, go slow, get used to the MPV. Full load, with 5 adults and 2 kids. Pick up not bad, even going up hill. Not much body roll of this size MPV compared to Ts, Ls & Cs. Don't ask, I have been surveying around for MPV for some time. Aircond, as usual for P1, thumbs up. NVH good.
Second test drive, less people, 3 adults and 2 kids. Pick up lagi faster compared to full load. Going over potholes
Third test drive, 2 adults only. Wah, syok!
CVT behavior, similar to my ride too, tad slower in response, rubber band effect. Probably after 10k km will be better.
Verdict, good pickup after 2k rpm, brakes good. All these compared to my current rides, both H & H. Material wise could be better, typical of Proton quality, but have improved. Engine bay and firewall insulation could be better. Middle row seating cld do with sliding for more space for 3rd row. Overall styling good and some touch of class, IMHO. If this is your 1st MPV and low on budget, and don't mind P1 quality, no need to think twice. Go test drive one yourself and see for yourself!
