Coupled with the so called "perceived value" ...depreciation amongst all cars is not standardized. In the case of cars, while depreciation is alligned to accounting practices that may be apportioned it as linear, the term "devaluation" could be applied here as it denotes a deliberate move by the market forces to reduce the value of things which could be non-linear ...my 2 bahts worth

its simple.
rx8= high fuel consumption(higher than DC5) due to rotary engine design, and the rotary engine needs engine rebuild/overhaul every 100k km. Not many ppl can service the car for rx8 too.
so those that are selling cheap are near to engine rebuild time. costs about 10k-20k.
rx8 = sports car, higher maintenance to mortals.
dc5= honda, so usually fetch higher price, and the price for last 5 years it hardly depreciate. 5 years ago dc5 is rm150k, now its the same price.

Yup.
A customer before me had some issues with his insurance, asking why so high and cannot reduce. When my turn I ask the staff at Takaful Insurance what the hoo hah ... turns out the guy has a Toyota Supra and insurance is higher, cannot afford to pay. Sports car are deemed risky as high risk of accident due most owners speeding
