2019 Mazda CX-5_Rear ViewDetails of the locally-assembled 2019 Mazda CX-5 have been released prior to its launch. Mazda authorised dealers are also accepting bookings for the updated CX-5, which will be available in five variants. Retail prices have not been announced yet but it will be covered by a 5-Year Manufacturer Warranty with 5 Years’ Free Maintenance according to manufacturer’s standards inclusive of labour, parts and lubricants. Both Manufacturer Warranty and Free Maintenance have a coverage period of five years and a mileage limit of 100,000 km, whichever comes first.

Mazda CX-5_2.5L SKYACTIV-G Turbo EngineOne notable change will be the introduction of the new SKYACTIV-G 2.5L Turbocharged AWD variant which replaces the SKYACTIV-D 2.2L AWD diesel variant. The SKYACTIV-G 2.0L and 2.5L naturally aspirated 2WD variants as well as the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 2WD diesel variant are still in the line-up (in case you didn’t realise it, ‘G’ is for gasoline/petrol and ‘D’ is for diesel). All of them are paired with SKYACTIV-DRIVE 6-Speed automatic transmission with Manual Shift mode.

The new SKYACTIV-G 2.5L Turbocharged engine produces 227 hp @ 5,000 rpm and 420 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm. It offers smooth, linear acceleration and a premium performance driving feel. In comparison, the SKYACTIV-G 2.0L naturally aspirated engine produces 162 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 213 Nm @ 4,000 rpm, while the SKYACTIV-G 2.5L has 192 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 258 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. Meanwhile, the SKYACTIV-D 2.2L has 173 hp @ 4,500 rpm and 420 Nm @ 2,000 rpm.

The new 2.5L turbo engine introduced into the CX-5 range has one of the highest compression ratios of any four-cylinder turbocharged engine, at 10.5:1, that is achieved through a series of innovative SKYACTIV technologies. These include an oil pump with continuously variable displacement, multi-hole injectors, Mazda’s Dynamic Pressure Turbo and cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), all working in sync to maximise combustion efficiency and minimise energy losses.

Mazda CX-5_Gear Lever_2019Mazda’s Dynamic Pressure Turbo builds boost at low revolutions by using a small inlet port to accelerate the exhaust gasses hitting the turbine, akin to how water velocity increases when one holds his or her thumb over a hose (think Venturi effect). From there, a secondary valve can open up at higher engine revolutions for increased airflow and maximum horsepower. A pulse scavenging 4-3-1 manifold prevents exhaust from restricting airflow through the engine and helps the engine breathe freely.

In some instances, turbocharged engines are mated to continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVT), operating in a narrow band of efficiency and possibly sacrificing the sense of connectedness between driver and car, a characteristic valued by Mazda and termed “Jinba-Ittai”. Mazda’s six-speed SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission, paired as a standard to the SKYACTIV-G 2.5L Turbocharged engine, keeps its torque converter locked through most of its operation, giving a more connected sense of control thus resulting in a more engaging drive.

Mazda CX-5_2.5L SKYACTIV-G Turbo_Steering WheelIn addition, Mazda’s signature and updated G-Vectoring Control (GVC) comes as standard across all variants. The original GVC is a Mazda-exclusive technology that makes steering response more precise and consistent by using small changes in the engine torque to shift weight to the front tires whenever the driver turns the wheel. In the updated version, the GVC Plus software control system improves steering response as the driver straightens the wheel, by adding a hint of braking to the outer wheels.

The more precise response of GVC Plus helps prevent the drive from accidentally over-driving the car in high-speed and emergency manoeuvres, resulting in better stability for the vehicle, and even more confidence for the driver.

Mazda CX-5_2.5L SKYACTIV-G Turbo_DashboardComing standard as well is the convenience of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which is accessible via the MAZDA CONNECT Infotainment display (new 7″ TFT), allowing for easy access to such frequently used apps as Waze, Google Maps, Spotify, etc. CarPlay and Auto should in theory let drivers keep their eyes more focused on the road. Exclusive on the SKYACTIV-G 2.5L turbo variant is the Coloured Windshield Projection Display.

Mazda CX-5_LED Headlights_Side ViewOther standard features for all variants are LED automatic headlamps with auto levelling, LED tail lights, LED fog lamps, powered folding side mirrors and rain-sensing wipers. The base 2.0L 2WD GL variant misses out on LED datytime running lights (it uses a bulb type), powered front seats, leather upholstery, front parking sensors and keyless entry but has keyless start like all the others.

Mazda CX-5_i-ACTIVSENSEAlso aside from the base model, all others also come equipped with a host of Mazda’s flagship i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety features which includes, but not limited to the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Smart City Brake Support (Front & Rear). The Mazda Radar Cruise Control looks to be left out.

Mazda CX-5_Top View_2019Exterior colour choices available are: Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver, Meteor Gray, Jet Black and Arctic White.

The new Mazda CX-5 is currently on display at Bangsar Shopping Centre until 15 September 2019.

Subang Jaya, 12 September 2019 – The Proton 1 Tank Adventure is back for the second time as an economic way for participating Proton owners to experience the sights, sounds and cuisine of Malaysia, because economic driving will be involved.

PROTON 1 tank adventure with 2019 Saga, Persona and IrizThe inaugural 1 Tank Adventure focused mainly on routes in Peninsular Malaysia but the 2019 competition will also feature two rounds in East Malaysia, one each in Sabah and Sarawak. The grand final later in the year will see participants embark on an epic journey – travelling from Kota Bharu in Kelantan to Johor Bharu, Johor on just one tankful of fuel.

The 2019 Proton 1 Tank Adventure will start tomorrow (14 September) with owners of the 2019 Proton Iriz, Persona and Saga participating. Members of the media and celebrities will also be joining the drive which is offering over RM100,000 worth of prizes. There are three preliminary rounds and then a grand final.

One of the main aims of the 1 Tank Adventure is to demonstrate the real world fuel efficiency of the current range of Proton cars. Participants in this challenge be tasked to drive their cars over a variety of roads and traffic conditions to deliver fuel economy figures that can be replicated by other owners on a daily basis.

“PROTON would like to demonstrate the efficiency of our cars by embarking on some epic journeys around the country. These figures won’t be obtained in a controlled environment but in driving conditions owners experience every day. Ultimately, we will prove the current range of Proton cars can deliver fuel economy figures that will help keep running costs low,” said Dr Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.

The 1 Tank Adventure will also showcase the improvements Proton has made to the updated Iriz, Persona and Saga models that were launched recently. From improving build quality, incorporating the “Hi Proton” voice command system, adding Internet connectivity and creating a variant with the most comprehensive safety equipment list for a car priced below RM40,000, each model has a unique set of characteristics to appeal to its target market.

“We would like to use the 1 Tank Adventure to remind Malaysians there are many factors to consider when buying a car. Proton has updated its entire range in 2019 and this is a great opportunity to travel around the country to show everyone the result of our hard work. With revised styling, improved quality, better handling and ride comfort as well as higher equipment levels and value for money, we have models to suit every budget and need,” added Dr Li.

Dynamic driving experience with Proton PersonaThe company’s engineers pay particular attention to the ride and handling balance of every car they design, resulting in vehicles that deliver fun behind the wheel. The 1 Tank Adventure participants will get to test these capabilities during dynamic driving sessions held at each round.

Drivers will perform manoeuvres in a safe and controlled environment and for many of the owners, it will be the first time they experience the limits of the vehicle’s grip and dynamic capabilities. The aim of this exercise is to show the participants what their own cars are capable of, thus reinforcing the message about Protons having class-leading dynamics.

2019 Saga: Supreme Style, Smart Savings, Superb Stability

Proton SagaLaunched on 6 August 2019, the 2019 Saga is the latest chapter in a story that spans 34 years. Over 2,000,000 units have been delivered to customers in Malaysia and export markets, making it synonymous with the history of Proton. The latest version has been comprehensively restyled and introduces features such as a 7-inch colour touchscreen, new centre panel, new meter combination display and up to 3 USB ports.

These changes have proven to be popular with Malaysian car buyers as in just over a month, more than 13,000 bookings have already been placed, thus ensuring the continuation of the success story of Malaysia’s most popular car.

2019 Persona: Peerless Connectivity, Practical Functionality, Proven Safety

Proton Persona_Preview_Front & Rear_Malaysia_2019With more than 11,000 units delivered since it was launched on 23 April 2019, the Proton Persona is the best-selling B-segment sedan for June and July this year. Visually, its external design updates differentiate it from its predecessor and create a visual link to other Proton models. Inside, Proton introduced an intelligent infotainment system, a first-in-class feature. Using an embedded eSIM card, it offers apps for music streaming, online navigation and voice recognition via a 7-inch touchscreen featuring a full colour display and 16GB of internal memory.

Combined with better value-for-money pricing and comprehensive customer packages, the Persona is the perfect choice for families looking for a stylish, functional and connected family car.

2019 Iriz: Revolutionary Connectivity, Refreshed Design, Responsive Driving

Proton Iriz 2019_Intelligent Head Unit_7 Inch Touchscreen_MalaysiaThe 2019 Iriz received 367 changes over its predecessor, signifying a major improvement in all aspects. Proton’s race-winning hatchback was given aggressive new styling at the front and rear of the car as well as a new interpretation of the ethereal bow and infinite weave grille, making it stand out on the road.

The Iriz also features the intelligent infotainment system used in the Persona and thus offers the same connectivity options as its sedan sibling. By combining improved quality and refinement with higher equipment levels and a fun to drive character, the Iriz has won many new fans, which is reflected in sales increasing by three times over the previous model.

L-R: Mr. Atsunori Murata, Chief Operating Officer, Commercial Vehicle Division, Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd; Mr. Koji Nakamura, Chief Executive Officer, Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Mr. Foo Sek Wee, Director, Tembikar Gemilang Sdn Bhd at the handover ceremony.

Mr Foo Sek Wee, Director of Tembikar Gemilang Sdn Bhd, which operates a thriving commercial kitchenware business, was impressed enough with the Isuzu Elf Smoother truck to purchase the company’s first Isuzu light duty truck. According to Mr Foo, the introduction of the Smoother variant with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) was the deal clincher.

“Our company had been using multiple vans for deliveries in the past. As our business expanded to cover more regions, it was getting costly to run as it did not have the load capacity. I decided that we needed to improve our logistical capabilities and starting looking at buying a new truck,” said Mr Foo who does much of the driving himself on visits to customers and suppliers.

Isuzu Elf Smoother_Automated Manual Transmission_Truck_Tembikar Gemilang“On one of my visits to a customer just before a long holiday, I was in the van for close to 24 hours due to the heavy traffic. It was such a torture and I told myself never again would I drive a vehicle with manual transmission. After doing some online research, I narrowed my choice to an Isuzu because it had a good reputation for reliable performance. Just then, Isuzu introduced the AMT so I contacted a dealer for a test drive,” he added.

“I was surprised at how quiet and comfortable the truck felt. I was able to have normal conversations and even listen to the radio. The Isuzu Elf Smoother shifts were smooth and very precise and there was ample power. I did not have to think twice and immediately booked the truck,” he said.

The Isuzu Elf range has been the top-selling light-duty truck in Malaysia for the past nine years, and the latest variant with AMT was added recently to the range. The latest AMT variant makes the truck even more appealing to the drivers with the convenience of driving without the need to manually work the clutch or gears. The AMT system allows the truck to perform like an automatic but benefits from the robustness and response of a manual gearbox.

The Elf series features versatile payload configurations, dependable performance and low operating cost, making it the ideal choice to support any industry’s transportation needs.

Delivering the first unit of the Isuzu Elf Smoother NPR150 to Tembikar Gemilang was Isuzu Malaysia CEO, Mr Koji Nakamura, who remarked that the response to the Isuzu Elf Smoother model has been very positive since the model launch two months ago. “With the addition of AMT, the appeal of the Isuzu Elf range has increased significantly as it offers the fresh dimension of ease of driving and comfort that a fully manual transmission version will find difficult to beat,” he said.

The Isuzu Elf Smoother is available in a few model variants and body configurations. Isuzu’s nationwide network of authorized truck dealers is ever ready to offer professional advice and recommendations on the ideal truck to suit each business operation requirements.

Porsche Taycan Turbo S_Side ViewPorsche is starting a new chapter in the brand’s history with the opening of the new factory for the Taycan in Stuttgart. The Porsche Taycan is its first all-electric sports car, and the new factory heralds a new era for the brand as well as for automotive production. Production of the Taycan is networked and flexible, making use of automated guided vehicle systems instead of traditional conveyor belts to transport components and vehicles from station to station.

“We have a level of responsibility for the environment and society. Production of the Taycan is already carbon-neutral. Heritage meets the future at our parent plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, which is the heart of the brand”, explained Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.

Porsche Mission E Doors Open - Copy
Mission E concept

The Mission E concept vehicle was introduced at the IAA motor show in 2015, and in less than 48 months since, Porsche marks the start of production for the first Taycan customer vehicles. The new production facility sets new standards in terms of energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. “We are committed to the climate protection targets agreed in Paris in December 2015 and have a clear responsibility to cut environmentally harmful emissions. However, our sustainability strategy goes much further than decarbonisation,” said Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics of Porsche AG. The company’s goal is to pursue the goal of a Zero Impact Factory i.e. production without any negative impact on the environment.

“We call our journey into this new era Porsche Production 4.0. We are using state-of-the-art technologies to network the digital world with the mechanical world,” Albrecht Reimold continued. “The focus at Porsche is still on people. Porsche employees are an integral part of the project. After all, we produce vehicles by people for people.”

Porsche Taycan_Factory_Production_Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen_GermanyThe production of the Porsche Taycan will see 1,500 new jobs created at the Zuffenhausen site, demonstrating that electromobility is generating employment at Porsche. While constructing the new factory and preparing for production, Porsche had also implemented an unprecedented training programme to familiarise all employees with the unique features of electromobility. In total, the company expects to invest more than six billion euros in electromobility by 2022. The company has thus far invested a total of 700 million euros in the new production facilities alone, one billion including the new body shop, which will also be used for the current generation of the Porsche 911. The new factory complements production of two-seater sports cars – 250 vehicles from the 911 and 718 series roll off the assembly line every day at the historic Zuffenhausen site.

Andreas Scheuer, Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure commented: “Electromobility is creating around 1,500 new jobs in carbon-neutral production here in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Porsche is therefore making an important statement about electric driving and German engineering. It is important now that everyone benefits from the technology and experiences – both manufacturers and customers. We need the electric Beetle effect on the road – as quickly as possible.”

Photography: Christoph Bauer Postproduction: Wagnerchic – www.wagnerchic.comWinfried Kretschmann, Minister President of the State of Baden-Württemberg said: “The Porsche Taycan shows that the mobility revolution is taking place now right here in Baden-Württemberg. By virtue of the fact that Porsche has not just created a revolutionary product in Zuffenhausen but also a revolutionary production facility, the company is clearly demonstrating that we here in the south-west are at the forefront of the reinvention of the car. I am particularly pleased that Porsche is investing locally with production of the Taycan at its parent plant in Zuffenhausen – and is therefore investing in Stuttgart, the state of Baden-Württemberg and its people. I would like to express our sincere thanks on behalf of the whole state government.”

Fritz Kuhn, Mayor of Stuttgart added: “The investment by Porsche sends out a strong message about Stuttgart. Where others just talk, Porsche acts.”

“The zero-emissions Taycan is a new Porsche icon,” remarked Blume. “It is different to our previous vehicles, yet is still a typical Porsche – innovative, sporty and emotive.”

Kuala Lumpur, 10 September, 2019 – The all-new Lexus and the new Lexus RX 300 is in town, launched tonight in a grand fashion by Lexus Malaysia.

Both models feature a number of latest technological features amidst the typical luxury fittings that has been the hallmark of every Lexus ever since the first one was launched in 1989.

May Tan, Shell Lubricants Marketing Manager – Malaysia & Singapore commented, “There is a global shift towards low viscosity synthetic lubricants due to proven benefits such as improved oil and engine performance; longer oil-drain intervals and fuel economy that add up to lower total cost of ownership.  This is critical for fleet operators, especially in today’s challenging economic environment. We see Malaysia as the right market for it and we are the first market in ASEAN to launch the new flagship product today.”
