If they bring it here, would you buy it?

This boxy creation is the production version of the Kia Soul, it is part of Peter Schreyer’s snowflake* design principle for the Korean carmaker. It is a crossover of sorts and designed to be funky and cool to young buyers.

In my eyes it looks like the Scion xB, which is a hot little number in the United States with the young and hip crowd. I do wonder if Malaysians would buy this car if it made it to our shores….

I am asking because if we look around boxy cars we don’t see to many boxy cars on the road. But then again maybe because not many boxy models are brought here..why is that?

The production version looks very much like the concept (above) and as the name suggests carries many of the design principles that will identify Kia in the future. Kia says the snowflake is mathematical,defined and structured.

Kia has not released any pictures of the production interior but take a look at these these photos of the three concept cars Diva (white), Burner (black) and Searcher (silver) and mentally strip them of the flashy bits and you get an idea what it would look like.

Bling Diva interior – things to strip are the white finish, the black and gold finish and replace both with save mid-tone grey adn you definitely have to take away those embossed black leather seats from the production version

interior-red.jpg

Burning red – take away all the red finishing and you are pretty much looking at the production interior, oh yeah those seats are not making it into production

Searching in grey – imagine the top of the dashboard in black and you are looking at the production interior or something very close to it.. It would be cool if they could keep the fabric trim on the dashboard top but it would take our scorching sun less than a year to shrink and warp it

Are Malaysian buyers more willing to buy something like this you think?

If you do like it, drop a comment…..someone is interested in what you think

Schreyer and his three Souls

Anyway if you guys have not met, i would like to introduce you to Peter Schreyer, he used to be with VW and one of the cars he worked on was the Passat..

Here’s a bit of designspeak from Schreyer;

“The name SOUL accurately reflects how people will be able to ‘express their spirit—their psyche’ with this new product.  Through a variety of options, accessories and colours, they will be able to personalize their Kia Soul and create a sense of individuality, making the car a true reflection of their personality.”

* It seems that Hyundai is water droplet while Kia is snowflake, two forms of the same thing, water. Hyundai gets to be curvy and organic while Kia gets to be snowflake……
