Perodua Provides Illumination On Its Future Path

Perodua_Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018_MalaysiaThe Perodua pavilion at the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS ’18) is themed ‘Illumination’ and seeks to enlighten visitors to the motor show of Perodua’s capabilities in vehicle concept and design, perhaps a sign of what’s to come for the company.

At the show, Perodua has on display its X-Concept vehicle, a tech-laden concept vehicle. With the profile of a tall hatchback, the X-Concept’s highlights include an LED-illuminated X-themed front grille and Perodua logo, low-set Y-shaped LED headlamps that combine with the bumper to form a large X, dynamic pulse turn indicators and sway doors that open to reveal the absence of a B-pillar (the lack of a B-pillar may seem impractical but we can name at least one current vehicle running around Japan that doesn’t have it).

Inside, the X-Concept has a futuristic dashboard with a TFT instrument panel, a 12.9″ central touchscreen and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Perodua_President & CEO_Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid Salleh“Perodua’s stand at KLIMS18 offers a glimpse into a future direction it may take to meet the ever-evolving expectations of our valued customers,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh. “Themed Illumination, the Perodua stand is our vision of what we aspire to be; a beacon of ideas in line with the needs and wants of our future customers,” he added.

“In keeping with KLIMS18’s Beyond Mobility theme, the Perodua X-Concept is much more than just a vehicle in the accepted sense. It is the manifestation of Perodua’s vision of the future, a vision where cars are lifestyle statements first, means of transport second, and bristling with connected technology. “And we’re letting the public ‘drive’ and experience it, through the wonders of virtual reality,” Datuk (Dr) Aminar said.

Visitors are welcome to engage with Perodua’s Research and Development team to give their feedback and views, Datuk (Dr) Aminar said.

Perodua Myvi GT Concept_KLIMS 2018_MalaysiaAlso on display is the Myvi GT concept which is a design exercise that shows off the sportier side of the popular compact hatchback. Key features of the Myvi GT include bold front and rear bumpers, upgraded brakes behind 17″ sports rims, Alcantara bucket seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Would you like one if it came with a turbocharged engine under the hood, and manual transmission?

In addition, there is a display showcasing a next-generation powertrain from Perodua’s technical partner, Daihatsu Motor Company of Japan. In today’s world of bottom lines and stakeholder happiness, platform and powertrain sharing is common and makes financial sense for all. But Perodua’s recent move to produce vehicles with designs that diverge from Daihatsu’s means the company can save on platform development and focus on building its own identity.
