New Range Rover Velar Launched In Malaysia; From RM530k
After some teasing, the new Range Rover Velar has been unveiled with three variants available i.e. Velar P250 (RM529,800) and Velar P250 R-Dynamic (RM588,800), as well as the Velar P380 R-Dynamic (RM not confirmed). Prices quoted exclude registration, road tax and insurance.
The Velar P250 variants are equipped with the 2.0L Ingenium turbocharged engine. The 250 PS and 365 Nm of torque produced by this engine goes to the four wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox (with paddle shifters) and Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system. 0 – 100 km/h acceleration can be achieved in 6.7 seconds while average fuel consumption is claimed at 7.6 litres / 100 km.
If that doesn’t sound fast enough, you can always place an order for the Velar P380 R-Dynamic which comes with a 3.0L supercharged V6 engine that boasts 380 PS and 450 Nm of torque, and is capable of doing the 0 – 100 in 5.7 seconds. It will set you back 9.4 litres / 100 km.
The Velar is built with an aluminium-intensive monocoque using Jaguar Land Rover’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture. Aluminium alloys make up for over 81% of the body-in- white, an amount still unmatched by any competitor. This allows for a lighter yet stiff body.
The Velar is also winner of the Car Design Of The Year at the 2018 World Car Awards courtesy of its progressive and uncluttered design which includes features like the flush deployable door handles, integrated rear spoiler, foil stamped grille, and Matrix LED headlights.
On the inside, one of the stand-out features is the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system which has two 10″ high definition touchscreens integrated behind secret-until-lit surfaces to give the interior a more modern minimalist look. With two screens, the Touch Pro Duo allows for multitasking e.g. you can make a call without interrupting the onboard navigation.
Other features include the large 12.3″ Interactive Driver Display which has changeable display themes and full-screen 3D navigation; Meridian surround sound system with 17 speakers and subwoofer; 10-way powered driver seat with memory; powered rear seat backrest; dual zone climate control; configurable ambient lighting; Morzine headlining; perforated grained leather seats; lockable glove box; and powered gesture tailgate.
Safety and driving features include Terrain Response with six settings – Comfort, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud and Ruts, Sand, ECO and Dynamic Mode; Hill Descent Control; Dynamic Stability Control; Intelligent High Beam Assist; rear view camera; auto dimming and heated exterior mirrors with approach lights; six airbags; tyre pressure monitoring system.
The R-Dynamic variant swaps out some of the standard features for R-Dynamic exterior pack and badging; leather steering with chrome bezel; satin chrome paddle shifters; head-up display; Shadow Aluminium trim finisher; perforated grained leather and suede cloth seats; bright metal pedals; surround view camera; and a panoramic sunroof. It also replaces the standard 20″ 7-spoke Style 7014 wheels with 21″ 10-spoke Style 1033 in Satin Dark Grey.
Meanwhile, the Velar P380 R-Dynamic will include electronic air suspension; adaptive cruise control with queue assist; and extended full leather upgrade.
Buyers can also choose the option of replacing the perforated grained leather with Kvadrat highly durable wool-blend premium textile contrasted with Suede cloth. The Velar is available in eight exterior colours – Fuji White, Yulong White, Corris Grey, Santorini Black, Kaikoura Stone, Firenze Red, Silicon Silver and Carpathian Grey; five interior colour options of Ebony/Ebony, Acorn, Vintage Tan/Ebony, Eclipse/Ebony and Light Oyster/Ebony.
Designed and engineered at Jaguar Land Rover’s development centres in the UK, the Velar is manufactured at the company’s Solihull production facility.
