New Hyundai Elantra Launched; 3 Variants Including A Turbo

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM), the distributor of Hyundai vehicles in Malaysia has launched the 6th generation Elantra sedan. There are 3 variants on offer – 2.0 MPI Executive, 2.0 MPI Dynamic and the range-topping 1.6 Turbo Elantra Sport, which are priced at RM 116,388, RM 120,588 and RM 131,488 respectively (on the road price without insurance in Pen. Malaysia).

All Elantra variants are entitled to 50,000km of free service with a 3-year validity. HSDM also offers a 5-year or 300,000 km warranty on all its new passenger vehicles. Further, a 24-hour road assist service is also now available to new and existing Hyundai vehicles.

The first 2 Elantra variants are powered by a 2-liter Nu MPI engine producing 152 PS and 192 Nm of torque, helped by a 6-speed automatic transmission. The more powerful 1.6-liter turbocharged Gamma T-GDI engine is paired to a 7-speed Ecoshift dual clutch automatic and has an output of 204 PS and 265 Nm.

Designed under the Fluidic 2.0 concept of Dynamic Precision, the new Elantra has an edgier front with a prominent hexagonal grille. Standard to the cars include sleek automatic projector halogen headlamps, front air vents that act as air curtains at the wheels, 17″ alloy wheels and LED tail lamps. Cargo space is a roomy 407 liters. The Elantra also has best-in-class drag coefficient of 0.27.

The car makes use of more Advanced High-Strength Steel (53%) for added stiffness at a lower body weight. This results in a 29.5% stiffer torsional rigidity and 25.3% greater bending strength, which benefits vehicle ride and handling, quietness, durability and driving performance.

Key highlights of the Elantra include:

  • Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Hill-start Assist Control
  • 6 Airbags
  • Emergency Fastening Device
  • Hands-free Smart Trunk
  • AV System with 7″ touchscreen and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support
  • Rear camera
  • Front and Rear Parking Assist
  • Auto Cruise Control
  • Drive Modes
  • Rear air vents
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System

The Elantra Sport adds:

  • Blind Spot Detection
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Paddle Shifters
  • Flat-bottomed steering wheel
  • HID headlamps

The Elantra Sport also sits on rear multi-link suspension as opposed to the 2-liter variants’ torsion beam.

“This all-new Elantra is evolutionary not just in its new design but in all the features that come with it. We are certain of receiving favorable response from the market with this upgraded model as it offers the best value in its class,” said Mr Lau Yit Mun, Managing Director of HSDM.
