Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Invests In The Future With CSR Contributions
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia gives back to the local community in its drive to have a positive involvement in the future of Malaysia. In line with its four core CSR (corporate social responsibility) pillars – Road Safety, Arts & Culture, Investing In Knowledge and Corporate Volunteering, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today announced contributions of over RM 200,000 in support of various social initiatives.
Mercedes-Benz believes that business success and social responsibility go hand-in-hand. Dr Claus Weidner, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia President and CEO said “CSR is part of our commitment to the Malaysian community. We want to be an enabler for future generations, and contribute to the community in a meaningful way. It is when we help those who are in need that we are truly making a difference in the world. Today marks the launch of a campaign which we hope will enrich the lives of the various groups involved.”
The recipients of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s 2016 sponsorship are Driven Communications, the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac), Teach for Malaysia and Monfort Boys Town.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is collaborating with Driven Communications as part of its MobileKids Initiative to promote safe road travelling with the Child Car Seat Rental Programme. The programme, spearheaded by Driven Communications in 2015, aims to educate parents on road safety by providing child car seats for rental (on first-come-first-served basis). Last year, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia provided this initiative with 110 child car seats. This year, an additional 135 child car seats worth RM50,000 has been added to raise awareness and get more parents to sit their children in these car seats, especially for the upcoming Hari Raya travel period.
“Every day, millions of people depend on a Mercedes-Benz for the safety of themselves and their loved ones. This includes using suitable systems to relieve the burden on drivers, protect them and support them in hazardous situations to ensure the safety of all road users. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is committed to achieving the vision of accident-free driving,” explained Dr Weidner.
Further, as a longtime supporter of the local performing arts scene, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will contribute RM 120,000 as sponsorship for KLPac; thus far the company has contributed over RM 1.2 million to promote the Malaysian performing arts scene in its belief that the arts can foster creativity and innovation.
The education sector, which Mercedes-Benz Malaysia sees as an important factor in empowering future leaders of the nation, also benefits from the company’s CSR programme. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is contributing over 200 units of pre-owned computers to primary schools and non-profit organization, Teach for Malaysia. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia aims to enrich the learning experience among students with this initiative. Teach For Malaysia and Monfort Boys Town will receive 50 computers each while three primary schools will each get 35.
Teach For Malaysia is a non-governmental organization which recruits Malaysian graduates, local and abroad, to become educators in high-need schools throughout the country while Monfort Boys Town provides education and skills training to orphans and the underprivileged.
Its 4th CSR pillar involves the support of initiatives undertaken by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s employees in the interest of society and the common good. One such initiative the company is continuing its support is its annual celebrations for children during festive occasions. As the first company in Malaysia that encourages its employees to share personally-selected gifts with children who are in need, the programme provides the
opportunity for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia staff to bring cheer to underprivileged children. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz is committed to preserving the diversity of natural habitats for future generations and is extending its support to employees who will be involved in a beach cleaning programme scheduled for later this year. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also supports its employees who participate in the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon. As a corporate sponsor of the marathon, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will be donating RM20,000 to Hospis Malaysia.
“Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is passionate not only about delivering the best products and services to our customers; we are also deeply committed to champion community initiatives that contribute to the long term development of society. We are very delighted to do our part in contributing towards the growth of the nation by supporting various communities to help them achieve their best potential,” added Dr Weidner.
