Euro 4M – Caltex shares insights behind improved RON 97 fuel

Chevron Malaysia Limited, which markets the Caltex brand, conducted an educational workshop sharing insights and the benefits of its Euro 4M RON 97 petrol, which will go into circulation effective 1 September 2015 following a much-awaited mandate from the Government.

Participants of the workshop had the opportunity to go behind the scenes with Greg Engeler, Senior Product Engineering Specialist, Team Leader Asia Pacific, Product Engineering, where Engeler provided his insights on the development of Caltex’s Euro 4M Premium 97 with Techron fuel along with the benefits and technology behind the Euro 4M standard.

“With the introduction of cleaner fuel standards such as Euro 4M, infused into Caltex Premium 97 with Techron, motorists can be assured that their engines will be equipped with specially-formulated ingredients which would not only keep engines clean but also offers a maximisation of power, fuel economy, smoother drive, lower emissions and reliable performance,” said Engeler.

Euro 4M standard fuel comes with lower benzene, sulphur content as well as Reid Vapour Pressure (RVP) levels which ensures good vehicle operability. With largely reduced sulphur content, it enables the rapid introduction of clean and efficient vehicle technologies for spark and compression ignition engines. Newer vehicles with sophisticated direct injection fuel systems are particularly sensitive to high-sulphur fuel; these vehicles will benefit most from the the introduction of this improved fuel standard.

“The quality of fuel today is becoming increasingly important to ensure good vehicle performance. Without the right fuel, the engine won’t perform as well as it was designed to perform. We are committed to ensuring our customers are equipped with the best fuel and at Caltex, we are always looking for ways to make our customers’ journey enjoyable and memorable – be it in the form of products or services,” expressed Chevron Malaysia Limited’s Country Chairman, Shahid Ahmed.

The Caltex Premium 97 with Techron is a fuel that contains a deposit control additive that is mixed with a unique ingredient, polyetheramine, which has been designed to clean fuel system deposits and prevent them from re-forming. Lower quality fuels can leave harmful deposits in engines that would accumulate over time and cause serious damage in the long term.

Greg Engeler is an active participant in the fuel industry who has extensive experience through his 30 years at Caltex Australia Limited.
