Improved connectivity for the BMW 7 Series
New 2014 units of the BMW 7 Series will feature an enhanced suite of BMW ConnectedDrive technologies that will make it one of the most advanced vehicles in its segment. Happily for potential buyers, these enhancements come without any increase in prices.
As before, BMW continues to offer the 7 Series exclusively in its F02 long-wheelbase format in two variants – the naturally-aspirated 730Li and the turbocharged 740Li, both being 3.0-litre inline-six engines mated with 8-speed automatic transmissions. The range-topping ActiveHybrid 7L is offered on a per order basis.
The raft of improvements start with the 730Li upgrading its instrumentation to feature heads-up display and BMW’s swanky new Multifunctional Instrument Display that is essentially a screen that allows the instrument cluster’s appearance to take a choice of different colours and ambient mood settings. The 740Li, meanwhile, gains the addition of a sports leather steering wheel with paddle shifters.
Both versions of the 2014 7 Series will get a Driving Assistant package that consists of Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, and autonomous emergency braking (City Collision Mitigation in BMW-speak) with Pedestrian Protection. The 740Li further adds Driving Assistant Plus, which includes Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go and Traffic Jam Assistant. These two features effectively allow the 740Li to function as an autonomous driving vehicle in congested roads, with the driver only feeding steering input.
The retail prices (on the road, without insurance, with BMW Service + Repair Inclusive (BS+RI) for the new BMW 7 Series are:
