Facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan launched in Malaysia

Having just rocked the market with three all-new models, Volkswagen Group Malaysia has went on to refresh one of its existing ones, with the launching of the facelifted Tiguan for Malaysian markets earlier this week. The Tiguan entered Malaysia in 2008, and this facelifted model arrives nearly eight months after its global debut in the Geneva Motor Show this year.

The new Tiguan ditches the original’s rounded styling to get inline with VW’s current corporate look. Its reworked nose gives the Tiguan a mini-Touareg appearance. External features of the Tiguan include Bi-Xenon headlights with Daytime Running Lights (DRL), headlight washer system, electric-adjusting foldable side mirrors with built-in heaters, silver anodised roof rails and 17″ ‘New Orleans’ alloy wheels.

As before, VGM continues to offer the Tiguan in only one variant, and it is the top spec 2.0 TSI 4Motion model powered using the same engine as the Golf GTI. Paired with VW’s 7-speed DSG, the Tiguan’s 1,984cc EA888 engine sends 208hp and 280Nm to all fours via the 4Motion all-wheel drive system. Top speed is rated at 213kph, and the century sprint is dispatched in a respectable 7.3 seconds. Combined cycle consumption is rated at 8.6 l/100km.

Safety gear offerings are not compromised. The Tiguan is packed with the full suite of driving aids that include ABS, EBD, ESP, Anti-Slip Regulator (ASR), Comfort Brake Assistant, Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold Function, Electronic Vehicle Immobilisation Device, Engine Drag Torque Control (EDTC), flat tyre indicator and rain sensors.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed with ‘Vienna’ upholstery, and amenities include steering-mounted controls, Climatronic air-conditioning system, cruise control, MEDIA-IN multimedia interface for iPod and USB, Park Distance Control (PDC) with ‘Rear Assist’ rear view camera, RCD510 audio with MP3 replay function, a 6-disc CD changer including 8 front and rear loudspeakers. Cargo carrying capacity varies between 470 and 1,510 litres based on seating configuration.

So, what’s the asking price for this new and improved Tiguan? Well, here’s the good news, you pay less. From RM251,121.60 previously, VGM has brought the Tiguan’s on-the-road without insurance price down to RM238,121.60. Improvement indeed.
