Proton Presents Inspira to Badminton Hero Datuk Lee Chong Wei

Subang Jaya, 23 April 2011 – It will be an inspiring drive for Datuk Lee Chong Wei, our very own World’s Number One badminton player, the next time he heads out to town or to a badminton match, as he will be behind the wheel of a brand spanking new Proton Inspira – the car, a black 2.0 litre CVT, was presented to him today in a simple ceremony at the Proton Centre of Excellence by Proton Holdings.

“Proton is honoured and indeed privileged to have the brand represented by such an accomplished individual. This gesture of recognition is an extension of our existing support for th sport of badminton and its development,” said Proton holdings Berhad Chairman Dato Sri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh.

“Our association with one of the most successful sporting disciplines in the country will also significantly increase brand awareness and enhance Proton’s profile both domestically and abroad,” he said.

Datuk Lee clinched the prestigious All-England title for the second time running this year, making him the best singles badminton player in the world. He is also the current record holder for the Proton National Circuit title with nine consecutive titles since 2002. In January 2011, Datuk also won his seventh consecutive Proton Malaysia open title.

Being the silver medallist in the 2008 Olympic Games also made Datuk Lee the first ever Malaysian to reach the finals of the men’s singles event, and also the first Malaysian to win a medal in the Olympics since 1966.

Proton has been an active participant contributing to the development of badminton in the last 16 years, since it was entrusted by the government to act as the corporate custodian for badminton in 1995.
