Axle BHPetrol continues good run in Yamaha SL Cup
Round Two of the Yamaha SL Cup 2010 was held at the PLUS Speedway Circuit at USJ, Subang Jaya, with much to celebrate for the newly formed Axle-BHPetrol Racing Team.
In the Cadet series, Axle-BHPetrol driver Daim Hishammudin finished 2nd in Race 1, and went on to win Race 2 to become overall winner of the round. Daim’s teammate James Pull finished 4th in Race 1 and 3rd in Race 2 to take overall 4th spot.
This sees Daim pull up alongside Pull in the overall championship, as they jointly lead the standings with 62 points each.
“That was definitely a good weekend for me,” said Daim after finishing 1st in the final race. “I’m ecstatic to win the race as I worked hard with my technical crew to find the right set-up all week. Then during the races, I held my racing line well and was tight coming into and exiting the corners. Also, my fitness and strength has improved after extensive workouts” added Daim.
In the senior category, Tan Wei Ron took 3rd overall place for Round 2 by finishing 2nd in Race 1 and 3rd in Race 2. Against a field of vastly more experienced drivers, the 15-year-old broke the track lap record during qualifying with a time of 46.990 seconds. His performance was sufficient to propel him to top spot of the Senior championship standings.
With all three drivers leading the pack at the moment, team manager Megat Shazreal is now looking forward to maintaining the good show in Round 3, saying, “The competition in Round 2 of Yamaha SL Cup was very intense and the team will commence practice testing early in the week to maximize valuable track time. I am confident that we will perform better in Round 3 to maintain our winning lead.”
