New MD to take the helm at P2
Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz bin Syed Abu Bakar, Perodua’s Managing Director who led the carmaker to the top of Malaysia’s sales charts has decided not to renew his contract, set to expire at the end of this year.
In his place, Perodua has appointed En Aminar Rashid Salleh, Executive Director and Head of Strategic Marketing Group of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, to fill the vacancy. UMW, Perodua’s major shareholder at 38%, has been Aminar’s employers since 1992, having rotated him into various disciplines within the company.
Aminar, 49, is a Civil Engineering degree holder from Universiti Teknologi MARA, and also has an Executive Diploma in Business Administration from University of Central Lancashire, United Kingdom.
Perodua, established in 1993, is a joint venture company between Malaysian and Japanese partners. Other shareholders include Daihatsu Motor Co. Ltd. (20%), MBM Resources Bhd (20%), PNB Equity Resources Corporation Sdn Bhd (10%), Mitsui & Co. Ltd (7%) and Daihatsu (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (5%).
Aminar will step into office on 16 November 2009, with a transition period taking place until Syed Hafiz’s term completes on 31 December 2009.
