DaimlerChrysler Malaysia Helps Customers To Take Care of Precious Human Cargo
Kuala Lumpur, 23 June 2006 – DaimlerChrysler Malaysia organized a Safety Driving Course for Mercedes Vans, as part of its integrated safety philosophy and its ongoing commitment to improve road safety. Targeted at the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and the Vito van owners and drivers, this Safety Course is the first of its kind in Malaysia. Vans generally carry precious human cargo, and this course is ideal for van drivers as they get to experience real situations, and learn how to handle the actual vans to avoid accidents.
Participants were led by a team of professional trainers specially flown in from Germany; talks and practical training on the principles of driving dynamics and the laws of physics were given to teach participants how to control their vehicles with maximum safety.
Amongst others, the Safety Driving programme focused on honing the drivers’ skills in four core areas, namely, recognising potential danger, avoiding danger, handling critical situations, and understanding and experiencing the state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz safety systems.
On the DaimlerChrysler Malaysia initiative of being the first to rollout such a course, Konstantinos Tsiknas, Vice-President of Sales & Marketing, DaimlerChrysler Malaysia commented, “DaimlerChrysler Malaysia commands a leadership positioning in terms of the development of vehicle safety. No other commercial vehicle manufacturer invests more in the development of new assistance and safety systems, which save life everyday. As the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer and a pioneer in vehicle safety development, we believe that achieving the top level of vehicle safety is all important but well-trained drivers are also an essential ingredient. We are pleased to introduce to our valued customers in Malaysia, the importance of safety driving, which bridges the gap between technology and driving skill.”
Mercedes-Benz, a brand of DaimlerChrysler, has been in the forefront in vehicle safety development for more than fifty years. This goes for passenger cars, trucks, vans, buses and coaches. Pioneering technologies that are now ‘given’ in vehicle safety such as the airbag, Brake Assist, and ESP were first developed and employed in Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
In the 1980’s, the onset of electronics in commercial vehicles paved the way for a revolution in active safety. It became possible to develop technology that reduced driver stress levels, as well as control systems that worked beyond the limits of human capability.
The first ever anti-lock braking system (ABS) for commercial vehicles was introduced for Mercedes-Benz trucks, busses and coaches in 1981, and today, it celebrates its 25th anniversary.
