GRA 2 Attracts Newcomer Cheryl
Kuala Lumpur 11 January 2005 – Entries for the second of the GRA Grassroots Motorsports events, scheduled for this weekend (Sunday, 15th January 2005) have nearly reached the 100 mark, with 96 official entries. Running from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm, there’s bound to be plenty of action going on, if the previous round is anything to go by.
This time, the event will also be held in the open car park along Jalan Ampang, right next to the KLCC shopping complex. Fans and enthusiasts can bring the whole family for a day outing, and if not all members of the family like motor sports, they can spend the day shopping at the KLCC complex, catch a movie, or just relax at the KLCC park.
Amongst the entries is a young girl called Cheryl, who will be entering a motorsport event for the first time. This is exactly what the GRA event is supposed to achieve; to encourage newcomers to take up the sport in a safe and guided environment, and without paying an arm and a leg. For RM65.00, one can have a whole day of fun competing with other enthusiasts over a marked course. Cheryl will be competing in a Honda Civic. Supporting her are her friends and colleagues who will be coming along to help her and cheer her on.
The regulars, Mickey and Ricky Teoh, Faisal (Ah Fai), Ivan Khong, the Lai brothers, and ‘cone killer’ DeOngster will also be present. Also registered is Dominic, the 16-year old wonder who is yet to be licensed to drive on the road, known to be very fast in his Lotus Elise.
At a gathering for participants and friends, held at the Midvalley Megamall hosted by BFGoodrich, the media met with some of the participants and the race queens who will be present at the event proper on Sunday. Also present was Ronald Sutardja, popularly known as Mr. BFGoodrich to all the competitors. A video clip of the previous event was shown to all the guests. Master of ceremonies for the evening was Ian Khong, who kept the party lively all night long.
