Singapore – Chevrolet showcases the new Optra5 in the 2004 Singapore Motor Show.
Better known as the Chevrolet Optra5, this new model further solidifies Chevrolet’s position in the compact 1.6-L lifestyle car market in Singapore. Featuring a distinct modern European exterior design with a luxurious yet muscular look, Optra5 offers a surprising level of comfort and convenience with its spacious and stylish interior and numerous storage compartments.

Optra5: A Dynamic Exterior and Roomy Interior
The introduction of the front-wheel-drive, five-door Optra5 in Singapore follows its successful introduction in Europe, North America, and South Korea and recently in China.
Exterior
The Optra5’s modern, elegant exterior styling courtesy of world-famous Italdesign Giugiaro will appeal especially to young design-oriented drivers. Almond-shaped clear-glass headlamps and a new self-confident radiator grille with the iconic Chevrolet logo integrated into the horizontal chrome strips, create the dynamic front view.
Interior
The silver-tone sporty interior was designed to create a sporty look and feel for young and active drivers. Despite its compact appearance, the Optra5 has a surprising amount of interior space. In fact, its 932 millimeters of rear legroom is the best in its segment.
Durability
The Optra covered nearly 2 million kilometers on test tracks on four continents. Test cars were subjected to the merciless heat in Australia, while other summer tests took place in Spain. Winter testing took place in Canada and Sweden and a total of 194 crash tests were carried out in accordance with NCAP standards in North America, Europe and South Korea.
Safety
The maximum utilization of high-strength steel, which accounts for 40 percent of the body shell, provides the Optra5 with the added benefits of high tensional rigidity, comprehensive crash stability. Other standard safety features include four disc brakes with four-channel ABS, driver and front passenger airbags, and belt force limiters.
Engine Performance
The 107 horsepower E-TEC II DOHC engine generates a maximum torque of 14.2 kg.m.
Driving Dynamics
The sophisticated independent suspension on both front and rear axles, highly effective automatic transmission, and the combination of the powerful engine and lightweight chassis, provide excellent driving dynamics.
Total Noise Restraint System
The largest possible air filter, triple mufflers and a sophisticated three-point mounting of the transversally installed drive units address noise and vibrations. In addition, finely tuned hydro mounts are used both for the engine and for the transmission. To further reduce noise and vibration, the Optra5 offers a Noise Vibration and Harshness package comprised of sound-absorbing materials for the hood insulation and engine cover. The result is a quiet interior that would be expected of a larger car.
