Buy a young classic straight from Mercedes-Benz

If you are a fan of Mercedes-Benz Classic cars all you have to do is call up the classic centre in Germany and see if they have a car tt you want or parts that you are looking for. Chances are they do but it is not going to be cheap.

The Classic centre deals with rare adn expensive classics from the company’s storied past but most of us just want a car that brings back memories and these are not necessarily really old or expensive vehicles.

Many of these nostalgia inducing cars are between 2o and 30 years old so they have not attained proper classic status in the minds of serious collectors so the Classic centre doesn’t really deal with them. Until now.

Stuttgart realise that there is a considerable market for young classics, cars like the Stacked lamp S-Class, the SL that TV-soap Dallas made famous, the W123 coupe, or a nice stroke-8 coupe. it could even be the maniacally fast E500.

Up till now these young classics fall into the very grey and shady world of used car dealers and there is no shortage of really rubbish cars being tarted up and sold on for a lot more than they are worth.

This is a problem because these young classics are not being pursued by serious collectors or enthusiasts who know what to look for. Many buyers are simply looking for nostalgia and their heavy reliance on pure emotion make them the perfect prey for the less salubrious elements of the used car trade.

If you are looking for young classic, all you have to do now is call up your local Mercedes agent and find out how to get in touch with the classic centre and see if they have a car that you want.

Mercedes-Bez has set up a Young Classic website and they have, at the moment, a modest collection of cars that you can buy or rent.

Renting is a fantastic option because a lot of us are in love with the idea of owning  a classic car but are completely clueless about the expense and effort needed to keep a classic properly oiled.

Here is a particular caution to Malaysian classic collectors: They are nto cheap cars.

I am a classic car fans and I have met a fair number of Malaysian classic collectors and a lot of these so-called classic collectors are no more than owners of old cars and there is a very good reason for this. Malaysians confuse old cars with classic because they only ever want to pay old-car money.

The cars listed on Mercedes’ young classic website are immaculately restored and this is reflected in the price.

Bear in mind you cannot get better examples of these cars anywhere in the world, after all they have been restored by the manufacturer itself.

Buy one and you can sleep well knowing that the car will only need regular maintenance.

I will not be surprised to see the same modeled copied by other car companies with a strong heritage.

Young classic can be big business, it just takes time to age properly.
