BMW Malaysia to Broaden Offerings

BMW Malaysia to Broaden Offerings

Barely a month into beginning operations, BMW Malaysia is already revealing its plans for the future and they suggest an aggressive approach. Well aware that customers have long desired more variety in BMW offerings, steps will be taken to broaden the model line-up.

As part of this process, the company will introduce the Z4 before the end of the year. Already launched in many other ASEAN markets, the Z4 is expected to be priced at around RM400,000. It will be available with 6-cylinder 2.6-litre and 3.0-litre engines..

However, it is the new 5-Series that will be the highlight of the year for BMW. Surpassing its predecessor, which has been hailed as ‘the ultimate executive sedan’, the all-new 5-Series is said to combine the dynamism and sporting flair of the 3-Series with the supremacy and presence of the BMW 7 Series. The starting price for this model, to be a CBU import initially, is to be about RM500,000.

“This is truly a magnificent creation. We strongly believe that it will sell very well here in Malaysia,” said Wolfgang Schlimme, Managing director of BMW Malaysia.

And to demonstrate its commitment to doing business in this country, BMW will hold its global media and dealer launch of the 5-Series for Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe, in Kuala Lumpur next month. This is an extremely significant event as no manufacturer (apart from Proton and Perodua) has used Malaysia as a venue to introduce a new product to the international media.

BMW Malaysia will also be introducing 730Li, which complements the existing model variants of 735 Li and 745 Li that were launched last year, with an estimated pricing of RM710,000.

BMW Malaysia is a joint-venture between BMW AG and Sime Darby Bhd. Its activities cover the wholesale of BMW cars, spare parts and accessories as well as the overall planning of sales, marketing, after-sales and other related activities in Malaysia.

Auto Bavaria, which was previously the distributor for locally-assembled BMW cars and also provided after-sales services for BMW vehicles it sold as well as those from Cartrade, the importer/distributor for CBU models, will continue as the main dealer group.
