2025 Chery O5 Launched In Malaysia From RM116,800 With New Design And Features
Chery Malaysia has officially launched the all-new Chery O5 SUV / crossover to replace its popular OMODA 5, with a refreshed identity, updated design, and segment-first features. Priced from RM116,800, the locally assembled Chery O5 comes in just one variant and is now open for booking and test drives at Chery outlets nationwide. For comparison, it is also retailing at RM2,000 cheaper than the preceding top spec OMODA 5.

From OMODA 5 To Chery O5
Due to the signicant updates, the OMODA 5 will wear a new identity – Chery O5. When launched in Malaysia as the OMODA 5 in July 2023, it proved to be popular with over 13,000 units delivered. Globally, the Chery O5 is sold in 38 countries including Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Italy, Poland, and Mexico. Between January and August 2025, it recorded 44,769 units in global sales.

From January to August, the Group sold 1,727,299 vehicles — up 14.5% year-on-year — with overseas exports reaching 798,804 units, a 10.8% increase compared to the same period last year.
Powertrain And Driving Dynamics
The most notable changes to the vehicle are in this department. The Chery O5 is powered by a 1.5L turbo engine producing 156 PS (154 hp) and 230 Nm of torque. While previously paired with a 9-speed CVT, it now has a new 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (6DCT). Another key highlight is its Multi-Link Independent Rear Suspension, a first in its class, offering smoother comfort, enhanced stability, and superior handling compared to the previous torsion beam setup.
You can now also choose between 3 modes — Eco, Normal, and Sport — for a more versatile driving experience.
Styling Updates
On the outside, the O5 adopts Chery’s latest design language with a Pixel Diamond Front Grille, X-shaped front bumper, arrow-shaped LED DRLs with Sequential Turn Signals, and a new spoiler design for improved aerodynamics. 18″ Sporty Black Alloy Wheels complete its athletic stance.
Measuring 4,400mm long, 1,830mm wide, and 1,588mm high with a 2,630mm wheelbase, the Chery O5 offers a spacious cabin and a 442-litre boot.
Technology And Comfort
Inside, the cabin features a 20.5″ Integrated Dual Screen, Frameless Rear-View Mirror, Dual Temperature Light Vanity Mirrors, and a host of comfort-focused upgrades. New equipment includes front ventilated seats, 6-way powered driver seat, 4-way powered passenger seat, wireless phone charging, and a cooled front centre armrest.
Entertainment comes via an 8-speaker SONY audio system with 64-colour dynamic ambient lighting, while a panoramic sunroof and seamless wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity enhance the driving experience.
Safety And ADAS
The O5 retains its 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating, supported by a body structure with 78% high-strength steel, 6 airbags, ISOFIX anchors, and comprehensive Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
A total of 18 ADAS functions are offered, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind-Spot Detection, Traffic Jam Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent Headlight Control. A 540° HD Panoramic Camera and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System further add to safety assurance.
