BAuto Previews Xpeng X9 Premium Electric MPV; Q1 2025 Launch

The Malaysian automotive landscape is set change for 2025 as the MPV segment becomes interesting again with a variety of premium offerings. One of the upcoming challengers in the EV MPV space was previewed by Bermaz Auto (BAuto) i.e. Xpeng X9. This premium electric MPV will be distributed and retailed by BAuto subsidiary, Bermaz Xpeng Sdn Bhd.

Dimensions And Design

Physically, the Xpeng X9 measures 5,293 mm long, 1,988 mm wide, and 1,785 mm tall, with the body riding on a 3,160 mm long wheelbase. For a practical comparison, the Toyota Alphard measures 4,995 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, 1,935 mm tall, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase.

The X9 is built on the brand’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture 2.0 (SEPA 2.0) and has a distinctive wedge shape exterior design. The tailgate section is not in the typical flat MPV style but made up of angular but ‘clean’ surfaces. The front fascia is also relatively ‘clean’, with only the honeycomb pattern in the lower bumper standing out. Lighting comes in the form of LED headlights placed below a daytime running light bar that borders the bonnet. Other key exterior features include flushed pop-out door handles and sliding rear doors. As an aside, the fuss-free surfaces along with the sealed window gaps give the X9 an aerodynamic body with 0.227 cd (the drag coefficient of Xpeng G6 SUV is 0.248).

Luxurious Tech-Forward Interior

This Xpeng X9 unit on show is a development / pre-production unit and as such certain details and finishing seen in these photos will not reflect the one sold; the actual specs will only be confirmed at launch. It is rumoured that Bermaz Xpeng is looking at offering up to 3 variants, likely differentiated by the equipment list as well as types of seats and seat configuration, and spreading the product offering across a broader price range to appeal to different buyers and needs. Xpeng X9_Dashboard_Steering_Infotainment_Centre Console

Looking at the display unit, the inside offers a minimalistic and premium feeling cabin experience. Typical of the latest EVs, almost all vehicle controls are integrated into the large 17.3″ touchscreen infotainment system which is complemented by a 10.25″ digital instrument cluster. In this variant, the rear passengers get to enjoy a ceiling-mounted 21.4″ entertainment screen. The 2nd row passengers also get to sit in captain seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, as well as personal wireless phone chargers.

Additionally, the 3rd row seats of this 2-2-3 seating layout use electronic adjustment (including the 3 headrests). It can be folded and stored in the rear boot well for a completely flat cargo area. With the 3rd row seats occupied, the well offers a deep cargo area.

Power and Performance

In other markets such as Hong Kong, the Xpeng X9 is fitted with a single electric motor producing 235 kW (315 hp) and 450 Nm of torque. Official 0 – 100 km/h sprint is recorded at 7.7 seconds while top speed is 200 km/h. In China and Thailand, there is a dual motor variant offering 370 kW (496 hp) and 640 Nm; 0 – 100 km/h @ 5.7 seconds, top speed 200 km/h.

There are also different battery options i.e. 84.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery providing a WLTP range of up to 480 km, and a larger 101.5 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that extends the range to 575 km (WLTP). The number of motors and battery sizes offered in Malaysia will be known at launch.

Further, the X9’s 800 volt architecture supports DC fast charging, with “3C superfast charging” enabling a 10-80% charge in around 20 minutes. It also features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system with a 3.3 kW output for powering external devices. The X9 also boasts dual-chamber air suspension with variable damping and rear-axle steering for enhanced handling and maneuverability, giving this MPV a turning radius of just 5.4 metres.

Potential Pricing and Launch

Bermaz Xpeng has not yet announced indicative pricing but said that it will be positioned competitively in the premium EV MPV segment. In Thailand, it has a retail price of THB2.79 million (RM365k) so we can expect prices to be in that region. There is word that the company is looking at an official launch at the end of the first quarter of 2025, but at this moment, that is just a target date.

There is no listing yet in its official website, but you can check it at a later date: https://www.xpeng.com.my/
