Tan Chong Industrial Equipment & UD Trucks Launch Euro 5 Range Of Quester And Croner Trucks
Tan Chong Industrial Equipment (TCIE) and UD Trucks have launched the Euro 5 range of UD Quester and UD Croner trucks. This engine upgrade boasts features that will improve uptime, efficiency, and optimise Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for truck owners, while reducing the vehicle’s environmental impact to comply with ESG (environmental, social and governance) policies.

The new Euro 5 Quester (heavy duty) and Croner (medium duty) represent UD Trucks’ first models designed specifically for markets outside of Japan in line with the brand’s Better Life approach to sustainability practices. This Euro 5 range has been introduced in fast-growing and emerging regions around the world, due to the general adoption of more stringent international emission standards by various countries to reduce pollution and improve air quality.
UD Trucks’ Better Life drives the integration of sustainability across all of the company’s operations and processes to realise lower environmental impact, higher customer satisfaction and profitability, as well as a better place for people to work and live.
“The introduction of our new Euro 5 Quester and Croner is a significant evolution driven by UD Trucks’ corporate purpose of creating Better Life through more efficient and cleaner emission trucks that the world needs today, for a sustainable future.” said Steve Hedouin, Managing Director of Hub Malaysia, UD Trucks.
“With air pollution being one of the biggest health threats and the transport sector facing increasing environmental pressure and business challenges, this is an era where sustainable logistics has become even more critical than ever before. As industry players, we need to embrace and make positive changes to reduce emissions and future-proof our business operations. The new Euro 5 Quester and Croner give customers the leverage they can depend on for furthering their business productivity, all while minimizing their environmental impact and helping them stay competitive,” he added.
The new Euro 5 range features UD’s Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to significantly boost environmental protection and fuel economy. With SCR, exhaust emissions are mainly water and nitrogen. This system is able to reduce nitrogen oxides by 60% and particulate matter emissions by 80% compared to current Euro 3 levels. Compared with Euro 4 levels, nitrogen oxides are 43% less. Additionally, Euro 5 engines benefit from lower fuel consumption and CO² emissions than an equivalent Euro 3 truck.
UD Trucks is the first truck manufacturer to introduce the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology in 2004, and this technology has proven to be more reliable compared to other emission control technologies for reducing emission of nitrogen oxides. SCR technology also improves fuel efficiency and total cost of ownership as there are lower maintenance requirements compared to other available emission control technologies. Furthermore, there is also higher power and torque due to optimised combustion without increasing the size of the engine.
Business uptime is also enhanced with improved service intervals and less time required for maintenance. This is further supported by the availability of AdBlue at TCIE’s network of 26 branches and dealers across Malaysia. TCIE is the sole distributor partner of UD Trucks in Malaysia. AdBlue is a safe-to-use diesel exhaust fluid used in vehicles with SCR technology to reduce harmful gases from being released into the atmosphere. With a cleaner and more robust engine configuration and lower sensitivity to sulfur content in fuel, SCR technology contributes to longer engine life while reducing environmental pollution.
Aside from this, the new Quester and Croner also get a new instrument cluster with real-time fuel coaching. This feature provides drivers with immediate and specific feedback on their driving to help them improve their technique in real time and become more fuel efficient. This is ultimately beneficial to the truck owner and driver as every litre of fuel saved is more Ringgit earned.
Say Teck Ming, Chief Operating Officer of TCIE shared, “The offering of the new Euro 5 range reflects TCIE’s and UD Trucks’ shared commitment in supporting Malaysia’s environmental, social and governance agenda and in meeting the needs of modern transport operators in a changing world environment. Leveraging on TCIE’s strengths, the new Euro 5 Quester and Croner trucks will be produced as CKD under our manufacturing facility. With TCIE’s wide dealership and service network nationwide, we are excited and ready to help our customers transition their fleet to the cleaner emission and more efficient Euro 5 Quester and Croner.”
“The new Euro 5 range offers all of the additional advantages to help our customers go the extra mile efficiently and responsibly whilst retaining all other existing benefits that Quester and Croner have been delivering,” he added.
The UD Quester combines excellent fuel efficiency with durability and connectivity with the innovative UD Telematics functions, as well as good fuel efficiency and safety with numerous features including the ESCOT automated manual transmission.
The Croner meanwhile offers reliability and versatility through a wide and customisable model range, suitable for specific applications, fuel efficiency with its aerodynamic cab design to reduce drag, driveability with the Allison automatic transmission, and superior ergonomics, cab space and comfort for the driver.
For a limited time, early bird buyers of the Quester prime mover can enjoy 3 years (or 300,000 km, whichever comes first) free UD Trust standard contract, while buyers of Quester rigid trucks will receive service vouchers worth RM8,888. Buyers of the Croner meanwhile, will receive service vouchers worth RM6,888. This offer is valid until 31 December 2023.
