Charles Frump Is New Volvo Car Malaysia Managing Director
Today marks the first official day of Charles Frump as Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia. He succeeds Nalin Jain who previously served as Managing Director from 2019 to 2020. Frump will continue Jain’s responsibilities in overseeing the company’s overall operations and driving Volvo’s electrification vision in Malaysia.
Frump joins Volvo Car Malaysia from Volvo Car India. He had served as Volvo Car India Managing Director since 2017 and had played an instrumental role in accelerating the growth of Volvo’s market share and earnings in India’s competitive luxury car segment.
“I am excited to embark on a new chapter of my journey with Volvo in a new market. I see Malaysia as a crossroad of the places I have been in the past, and I look forward to working closely with the local team, individual by individual, to build our strengths,” said Charles Frump on his new appointment.
Frump’s association with Volvo Cars dates back to 2009 where he worked as the Director of Marketing in Volvo Car Japan. With more than 20 years of rich automotive experience in different markets and dynamics across Asia, the United States of America and Europe, Frump has also held global, regional, and local roles in the areas of Marketing, Sales, Customer Service and Network Management.
Frump’s appointment follows Volvo’s global announcement of becoming a fully electric car company by 2030. More recently, Volvo Cars launched its ‘Ultimate Safety Test’ campaign to declare climate change as the greatest safety challenge humankind faces today. In a world where today’s backseat passengers are the drivers of tomorrow, Volvo is working towards creating a safer and more sustainable planet with an all-electric future.
In February of 2021, Volvo became the first automotive brand in Malaysia to have a complete range of PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) with the launch of its XC40 PHEV. The brand is fully committed to sustainability and electrification efforts in Malaysia. As the company continues to strive towards a more sustainable future, Frump will also play a key part in spearheading Volvo Car Malaysia as the leader in premium electric vehicles in Malaysia.
“The future is electric – this is something we firmly believe in. The children of today will be the drivers of tomorrow, and they are going to grow up in an environment where climate change and global warming are the main issues they will face. To ensure that they will have a safe and green planet to live in, we aim to consistently reduce the life cycle carbon footprint per car through concrete action, which is why we are moving our entire portfolio of vehicles into electrification. We hope that by doing so, we can also help our customers take active steps in sustainability together,” concludes Frump.
Frump holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in International Marketing from UCLA Anderson School of Management, California, USA. He has a bachelor’s in economics and mathematics from St. Olaf College, Minnesota, USA. He and his wife like to explore a new country every year.
