PROTON Delivers 999 Units Of All-New X50; Demand Surges Past 8,000 Bookings

Just 5 working days after its official launch, PROTON hit a milestone with the delivery of 999 units of the the all-new Proton X50 to customers across Malaysia. Backed by strong demand and a pre-launch production ramp-up at Tanjong Malim, the SUV has hit the ground running with 2,000 units already produced by end-July.

“The recent launch of the all-new Proton X50 followed a carefully planned sequence where publicity was ramped up in a series of on-ground activations. We received tremendous support from potential car buyers who were impressed by the features offered and as a result, we garnered 5,000 bookings in just 10 days before the price was revealed. Cumulatively, we have now received 8,000 bookings as at the end of July,” said Zhang Qiang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Proton Edar. 

“We also committed to build up our stock levels prior to the launch, which is why we have managed to deliver 999 units to our early bird customers just 5 working days later. As of 31 July, 2,000 units have now rolled off the production line in PROTON Tanjong Malim, and we have planned to keep production levels high to ensure the waiting time for customers is kept to a minimum,” he added.

Expanding X50’s Appeal 

Having sold over 140,000 units since its debut in 2020, the X50 remains Malaysia’s best-selling B-segment SUV. The latest generation sees PROTON making a strategic push to capture younger buyers through collaborations with local artists, influencers, and pop culture events.

This includes working with music group De Fam, who composed and performed an original song for the launch, and a collaboration with the Anugerah Melodi Terhangat (AMT) awards show. The grand finale on 3 August at Putrajaya International Convention Centre will see one artist walk away with a brand-new Proton X50 through the Anugerah Pilihan Proton X50 Superstar award. 

“PROTON’s approach for the new X50 was to reach out to a younger customer segment and to do so, our activation events were designed to appeal to them. From the collaboration with De Fam to being a sponsor of the AMT event and even launching the model at a pickle ball venue, these efforts have placed the Proton X50 in the spotlight, in what is a busy period for the automotive industry,” added Zhang.

All-New Powertrain, Larger Screen, And Bahasa Malaysia Voice Commands

Available in Executive, Premium, and Flagship variants, the new X50 introduces a fresh design, new features, and several firsts for the nameplate. Notable upgrades include:

• New i-GT 1.5 TD engine producing 181 PS (179 hp) and 290 Nm

• 7-speed DCT gearbox

• 0–100 km/h in 7.6 seconds

• Fuel efficiency improved by 4.7% over the previous model

• ADAS Level 2

• A larger 14.6″ floating infotainment touchscreen

• Bahasa Malaysia recognition for voice commands

Pricing and Launch Offers

Prices for the X50 start from RM89,800 for the Executive, RM101,800 for the Premium, and RM113,300 for the Flagship (on-the-road without insurance). The first 10,000 buyers are eligible for a RM4,000 cash rebate as part of the Gempak! deal.
