Jaecoo J8 Officially Launched In Malaysia; Off-Road Luxury Priced From RM178,800

OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has launched the all-new Jaecoo J8 as its contender in the premium off-road SUV segment and using it to set a new standard for luxury, technology, and all-terrain performance. As the brand’s flagship SUV, the J8 embodies the marque’s “Off Road First Class” philosophy and debuts as the first 6-seater model (the AWD variant) from OMODA | JAECOO for the Malaysian market.

Purpose-Built Flagship For The Modern Adventurer

At 4,820 mm long with a 2,820 mm wheelbase, the Jaecoo J8 gives off a strong visual statement with its bold proportions and distinctive waterfall-style front grille that maximises airflow while lending a commanding presence. The clean, upright silhouette is accented by hidden door handles, a crisp shoulder line, and dual-tone 20″ alloy wheels that round out its premium look.

Under the hood, the J8 features a 2.0L turbocharged direct-injected petrol engine, producing 183 kW (245 hp) and 385 Nm of torque that is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can choose between a front-wheel drive (2WD) configuration or the more sophisticated AWD system with intelligent torque distribution.

Performance figures are: 0–100 km/h time of 8.8 seconds (2WD) and 9.0 seconds (AWD), with top speed capped at 200 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.8L/100km (2WD) and 8.1L/100km (AWD) respectively, based on WLTP standards. The Jaecoo J8’s powertrain is calibrated for enhanced thermal management and fuel efficiency, prioritising long-term durability—especially for high-load and off-road driving conditions. For added comfort and stability, the J8 is equipped with a Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension system that automatically adapts to terrain and driving style.

Also, besides the standard Eco, Standard and Sport drive modes, the AWD variant also includes Mud, Sand, Snow and Off-road, as well as torque vectoring.

Luxurious Interior With Practicality And Tech

Inside, the J8 AWD variant offers a 6-seater layout (2+2+2), while the 2WD variant adopts a 5-seater configuration for expanded cargo flexibility. Boot space ranges from 200 litres (3rd-row up, AWD) to 738 litres, and up to 2,021 litres (2WD, 2nd row folded flat).

The cabin’s wraparound dash features twin 12.3″ digital displays and a wide head-up display, with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Comfort is further elevated with a Queen’s Seat in the AWD model—complete with leg support, HVMM seats (Heated, Ventilated, Massage, Memory) for first and second rows, and a 256-colour ambient lighting system. There is also a ‘boss’ switch on the Queen’s Seat backrest in case the queen decides to sit in the 2nd row’s captain seat.

More premium conveniences include a 50W wireless phone charger with active cooling, Sony premium audio systems (12 speakers in 2WD, 14 – including headrest speakers, in AWD), NFC-based keyless entry, a built-in digital video recorder (DVR), and in-car fragrance system.

Advanced Safety And Local Assembly Commitment

Safety is handled by a Level 2.5 ADAS suite that includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Change Assist, Driver Monitoring, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Forward Distance Monitoring (FDM). The AWD variant also benefits from Fully Automatic Parking and a OneBox brake-by-wire system, finely tuned for precise and safe handling.

The Jaecoo J8 will be locally assembled at the Chery Corporate Malaysia Factory in Shah Alam, yet another sign of the company’s long-term investment in the local market.

Pricing And Launch Offers

The Jaecoo J8 2WD is priced from RM178,800, while the AWD variant starts at RM198,800. If you book your J8 before 21 July 2025, you will receive the JAECOO Prime Protection Programme, which includes 1-year complimentary insurance, an extended 10-year (unlimited mileage) engine warranty, and a specially curated off-road driving experience.

Deliveries of the AWD variant will begin in July 2025, with the 2WD model entering production shortly thereafter.
