Volkswagen Celebrates Malaysian Creativity With Winners Of First-Ever Shutter Stories Photo Contest
Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia officially announced the winners of its inaugural Volkswagen Shutter Stories photography competition, a unique initiative that brought together the power of storytelling, community spirit, and love for the Volkswagen brand. Powered by Fujifilm Malaysia, the competition invited Malaysians to share snapshots of life through 5 inspiring Volkswagen themes: VW Love, VW Adventure, VW Motion, VW People, and VW Life & Colours.
The contest crowned Hasanul Asyraf bin Hanafi, 35, as the Grand Prize Winner, awarding him a Fujifilm camera and lens set worth RM7,000. His prize also includes a mentorship programme with automotive photographer Aaron Lee, and a one-year photography contract with VPCM, marking a professional leap into the industry.
First runner-up, Kelvin Ooi, 23, won a Fujifilm instax Mini 99 camera with film valued at RM1,200. Second runner-up, Neeventhaa Perabagaran, a 19-year-old MMU student, took home a Fujifilm instax Pal (worth RM588) along with exclusive Volkswagen merchandise.
“Volkswagen is more than just cars—it’s about connection, character and celebrating the joy of the journey and creating relationships for life. The brand already holds a special place in the hearts of many—not only among our passionate owners, but also those who resonate with the spirit of fun, style, and bold individuality that our cars embody,” said Charles Lim, Brand Manager at Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia.
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Volkswagen Malaysia on the launch of the Volkswagen Shutter Stories photography contest. This partnership brings together a shared passion for innovation, creativity, and excellence. At Fujifilm, we believe in the power of photography to tell compelling stories, and we have seen how creatively participants interpreted the essence of Volkswagen through their unique perspectives,” said Thomas Kwan, Electronic Imaging & Instax Division Senior Sales and Marketing Manager Fujifilm (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
Entries had to reflect the 5 VW-themed categories, with at least 2 photos featuring a Volkswagen model. The submitted works captured everything from scenic road trips and urban adventures, to intimate portraits and vivid slices of Malaysian life.
