PRO-NET Partners AMTEL To Tackle EV Battery Disposal With Sustainable Solutions

PRO-NET, the PROTON subsidiary dealing with new energy vehicles, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AMTEL Cellular Sdn Bhd to responsibly manage end-of-life EV battery disposal. This partnership is seen as a significant step forward for Malaysia’s green mobility ecosystem, ensuring batteries are not only safely disassembled and processed—but also repurposed for second-life uses.

With EV adoption in Malaysia accelerating, the collaboration between PRO-NET and AMTEL aims to address a critical gap in the sustainability chain. The initiative supports battery recycling for purposes such as manufacturing new batteries and as backup energy storage, aligning with circular economy principles.

“PRO-NET is fully committed to sustainability and as we help the nation transition to green mobility, we want to also ensure that in doing so, the process remains green as well,” said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET. “While there isn’t an official government mandate yet, we are taking early steps to safeguard the proper disposal of EV batteries, ensuring that the recycling process remains economically viable while being environmentally friendly.”

The recycling process will comply with guidelines under the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Electronic Scheduled Waste Information System (eSWIS). AMTEL invests heavily into R&D investments including for sustainable technology. It will oversee the transportation, dismantling, and repurposing of EV batteries. Its focus includes turning used battery cells into energy storage units, strengthening Malaysia’s emerging green infrastructure with sustainable circular energy ecosystem.

“This partnership underscores our mutual commitment to not only advancing electric mobility, but also building the essential ecosystem around it, including high quality aftersales support, safe battery management, and responsible end-of-life handling” said Lim Hun Teik, CEO of AMTEL Cellular. “We are fully aligned with PRO-NET’s mission to deliver innovation on wheels, and we are excited to play a vital part in ensuring peace of mind for EV owners throughout their vehicle lifecycle.”

Tank-Proof Battery Tech

The Proton e.MAS 7, currently Malaysia’s best-selling EV, uses a state-of-the-art Aegis Short Blade LFP battery with Cell-to-Body (CTB) integration, giving the car extra rigidity and safety. Each blade battery is sealed and integrated with the body structure. e.MAS_Aegis Short Blade Battery_LFP

In a durability test, the Aegie battery pack survived being run over by a 36-tonne tank—enduring 1.8 times the standard pressure threshold without experiencing fire, explosion, or thermal runaway. The pack remained structurally intact with no leakage or deformation, demonstrating great resilience.

This follows the battery’s “6 Devil” torture tests simulating fire, flooding, freezing, crushing, scraping, and crashing. With nearly 1 million units installed in EVs sold worldwide and with no spontaneous combustion incidents reported, the Aegis battery is demonstrates real world reliability.

Special RM5,000 Trade-in Bonus For New e.MAS 7 Buyers

To encourage more Malaysians to embrace EV ownership, PRO-NET is offering an additional RM5,000 rebate when you trade in your old vehicle—regardless of brand or age—for a new Proton e.MAS 7. This limited-time offer applies to both Prime and Premium variants, subject to standard inspection.

The e.MAS 7 is priced from RM105,800 for the Prime variant and RM119,800 for Premium, and there is ready stock available.  Proton_e.Mas 7
