Perodua Reveals Final EV Prototype At Malaysian Autoshow 2025
Perodua has taken the wraps off the final chapter in its electric vehicle (EV) development journey by showcasing a half-cut prototype of its EV at the Malaysian Autoshow 2025. The display highlights the carmaker’s progress in EV design, local production capabilities, and national ambition in electrification.
The half-cut prototype offers an in-depth look at the interior and technical workings of Perodua’s upcoming EV, allowing visitors to experience a simulated drive of the vehicle as part of the interactive exhibit.
“Our display highlights our Malaysia’s capabilities in adopting assimilate EV technologies as our own,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
Perodua’s booth at MAS 2025 also features initiatives aligned with the brand’s broader electrification strategy. Among them is the X06E, a working HEV/BEV prototype jointly developed with Politeknik Muadzam Shah. This collaboration underscores Perodua’s efforts to nurture local talent and strengthen Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem.
“This collaboration proves that our technical students are capable of producing such technologies. For Perodua, it is our mission to grow the automotive ecosystem to transfer knowledge to all Malaysians. We actively contribute to nation-building trough such activities so that we all can benefit,” he added.
In a further push towards green innovation, Perodua is collaborating with Austrian-based firm Emerald Horizon to explore thorium as an alternative energy source. The rare earth element could one day supplement or replace electricity generated from fossil fuels, contributing to a lower carbon footprint.
“Hopefully this development will provide an alternative method to reduce dependence on electricity generated by fossil fuel. This method of generating electricity through a rare earth material would help in reducing our carbon footprint and we see that this method would add to our clean energy usage in the future,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said.
Perodua has already taken steps towards sustainability, integrating solar energy and natural gas into its operations as part of its carbon neutrality goal set for 2050.
