MG Motor Malaysia has previewed its first new-generation electric vehicle (EV) for the local market—the all-new MGS5 EV. With prices estimated to start from RM115,000, this B-segment SUV is designed to offer Malaysian drivers an engaging and affordable EV experience. “The MGS5 EV is the very first model we are introducing as part of a fresh new chapter for MG in Malaysia,” said Emory Qifeng, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia. “It sets the standard for what drivers can expect from our brand, with best-in-class driving dynamics for this segment.”

Following its global debut in China last October, the MGS5 EV is purpose-built for Malaysian roads, according to SAIC.

Rear-Wheel Drive With Two Battery Options

The MGS5 EV is engineered to deliver outstanding handling for its class. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels for a more dynamic driving feel. Buyers can choose between 2 battery configurations:

  • 49 kWh battery with 125 kW motor (170 PS, 250 Nm), offering up to 340 km WLTP range.

  • 62.2 kWh battery, capable of up to 430 km WLTP range and supports 150 kW DC fast charging.

Both variants come equipped with 6.6 kW AC charging, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including 7 airbags.

Technology And Comfort

Inside, the MGS5 EV features a 12.8″ Central Control Screen with voice control, a 10.25″ digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and key comfort features. The higher-spec 62 kWh variant adds:

  • 18″ alloy wheels

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • Powered tailgate

  • Leather/fabric seats with MG perforated pattern

  • Heated leather steering wheel

  • 6 premium audio speakers

  • Rain-sensing wipers

  • 360-degree surround view camera

These features are designed to deliver a refined and user-friendly driving experience for EV adopters in Malaysia.

Exterior Colours And Interior

The MGS5 EV will be available in 5 exterior colour options i.e. Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red, and Elegant Latte. All variants feature a dark interior with a leather and fabric seat combination. MGS5_EV_Rear

Estimated Pricing

MG Motor Malaysia shared that the MGS5 will launch with an estimated price starting from RM115,000, excluding registration fees and insurance.
