2025 Mazda MX-5 And Exclusive 35th Anniversary Edition Launched In Malaysia

The Mazda MX-5 is a motoring icon and the nameplate is now 35 years young. In celebration of this legendary roadster, Mazda has released a commemorative MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition. This is a highly exclusive model of which Bermaz Motor, the local distributor, has been allocated less than a handful of units (4), due to the very limited production.

The refreshed 2025 Mazda MX-5 RF range features updated styling, new features, and improved performance across both manual and automatic variants. While the 35th Anniversary Edition caters to true enthusiasts and collectors, the updated 2025 MX-5 lineup offers a more accessible route to owning this iconic driver’s car.

A Tribute To 35 Years Of Driving Joy

Since its global debut in 1989, the MX-5 has embodied Mazda’s Jinba Ittai philosophy – the perfect unity between driver and machine. Over 4 generations, this roadster has remained faithful to its lightweight, rear-wheel-drive formula, evolving with each iteration while retaining its core essence. 

The 35th Anniversary Edition is a homage to that legacy. It debuts exclusively in Artisan Red Premium, a deep and lustrous shade developed through Mazda’s Takuminuri painting process, and reserved only for this special model. Further, a serialized 35th Anniversary badge on the rear fender marks its exclusivity, while 17″ Bright Metallic alloy wheels and body-coloured mirrors complete its distinguished exterior.

The 35th Anniversary Edition’s cabin is equally distinctive. Sports Tan leather seats embossed with the 35th Anniversary logo on the headrest complement matching trim across the dashboard and floor mats. Exclusive Artisan Red Premium accents around the air vents and door panels tie the exterior to the interior, blending nostalgic design cues with modern Mazda elegance.

This special edition isn’t just about aesthetics, it also benefits from the latest enhancements introduced across the MX-5 range, including updated lighting, connectivity, and driver assistance systems.

2025 MX-5 Line-Up: Updated, Available, And Just as Fun

While the Anniversary Edition is limited in quantity, fans can still experience the thrill of the MX-5 with the updated 2025 Mazda MX-5 RF (Retractable Fastback), now available for booking in Malaysia. All variants feature refreshed exterior styling, including new LED lighting elements front and rear, revised bumpers (with the rear getting reflectors and fog light), and Aero Gray, a new exterior colour option that debuted on the Mazda2 and CX-3.

Inside, the revised meter cluster, frameless auto-dimming mirror, and an upgraded 8.8″ infotainment display with voice recognition, USB-C port, and a high-definition reverse camera bring the roadster up to speed with modern tech expectations. For safety, the MX-5 now includes an additional i-Activsense feature i.e. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), further enhancing driver confidence and awareness.

Additionally, the manual transmission variant adds serious performance hardware like DSC-TRACK (Driving Stability Control Track Mode) and an Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential, while revised EPAS (electric power assisted steering) tuning enhances precision and feedback for all variants.
