First Locally Assembled Jaecoo J7 PHEV Rolls Off Production Line; Launching In Malaysia End February

The Malaysian hybrid SUV market is set to see a new entrant. Jaecoo, known for its premium off-road vehicles, is preparing to launch its first plug-in hybrid model, the locally assembled J7 PHEV, before the end of February 2025. Prior to launch, production had commenced at its Shah Alam facility so that a locally assembled model is ready for market.

This marks a significant step for Jaecoo Malaysia as it aims to capture a slice of the growing hybrid vehicle market. The Jaecoo J7 PHEV promises to deliver the best of both worlds, bridging the gap between traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and fully Electric Vehicles (EVs). According to JAECOO Malaysia Vice President, Emily Lek, “We believe the Jaecoo J7 PHEV fits in perfectly with the market’s appetite for an alternative between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) segments providing the best of both worlds with its superior Super Hybrid System fondly known as SHS. As Malaysia’s EV ecosystem continues to develop, Jaecoo is happy to offer greater peace of mind to consumers considering the transition to hybrid energy mobility.”

The J7 PHEV boasts a sophisticated “Super Hybrid System” (SHS), which Jaecoo claims provides superior engine performance compared to both pure ICE and fully electric vehicles. The company highlights its class-leading pure electric range of 106 km (NEDC range) and the lowest fuel consumption in its class, at 5.99 litres per 100km, in a power-depleted state.

One of the key selling points is its extended range. Recent real-world testing saw the J7 PHEV complete a long-distance drive from Singapore to Hatyai, Thailand, clocking over 1,200 km WLTP range. This suggests the J7 PHEV offers a practical solution for drivers seeking both electric efficiency and the ability to undertake longer journeys without range anxiety.Jaecoo J7 PHEV_SEA Drive_Singapore

“Beyond delivering a great premium SUV, our Jaecoo network is also equipped and ready to care for our PHEV customers which is key to the longevity of their ownership journey with JAECOO,” added Emily Lek.

With local assembly underway, Jaecoo aims to offer a competitively priced and well-supported PHEV option in the Malaysian market. The Jaecoo J7 PHEV will undoubtedly be a vehicle to watch as the hybrid and electric vehicle landscape continues to evolve.
