Perodua’s Record-Breaking 2024 Fuels Massive Growth For Malaysian Suppliers & Dealers
Perodua’s unprecedented performance in 2024 has had a significant positive impact on its local supply chain and dealer network, according to the Perodua Suppliers Association (P2SA) and the Perodua Dealers’ Association (PDA). Both organisations have reported a substantial boost in their respective members’ business operations.
P2SA President, Musa Zahidin Tan Sri Ahmad Zaidee, revealed that Perodua’s component purchases from its members reached record highs in the past couple of years, amounting to tens of billions of Ringgit. “These purchases played an important part in enabling P2SA members to re-invest and expand our operations, improving economies of scale and increasing our competitive advantage – especially when cost is escalating due to external factors,” he explained.
Perodua’s impressive production of 368,100 units in 2024 was also a key factor, which P2SA was able to support thanks to the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s open communication approach. Musa highlighted that prompt payments, clear direction, and open discussions facilitated P2SA members to perform above expectations. He noted that many members have reinvested in their operations, including greater automation and the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies. As an example, Ingress AOI Technologies Sdn Bhd implemented an Automated Storage and Retrieval System that is able to identify, sort and move items productively around in high storage space with minimal human and equipment support, and thus improved space efficiency by 71%.
“We understand that we need to further improve for us to compete with our counterparts in the region and some of us are making inroads in ASEAN – while some even to Japanese auto OEMs,” Musa added.
On the dealer side, PDA President Cik Rabitah Dato’ Shamshudin acknowledged the challenges and successes of registering the majority of the 358,102 Perodua vehicles sold in 2024. She commended Perodua’s leadership, particularly Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, for their role in achieving these milestones.
“Aside from efficiency and professionalism, Perodua has now and again, offered tangible support to dealers on how to improve our operations, such as how to implement mono-operation, offer support and encouragement to upgrade to a 3S operations, which is paying off for many of our members,” said Rabitah. Mono-operations, which integrate sales, service, and spare parts, are key to providing a seamless customer experience.
Rabitah also noted Perodua’s efforts in welcoming the new generation of dealers, preparing them to take over from their predecessors. “Perodua is here for the long-run and has treated us fairly over the past 30 years that we have been partners. As we move forward, our members will continue to play our part in delivering the Perodua experience,” she said.
Looking ahead, PDA is committed to Perodua’s continued success and will focus on improving customer satisfaction by better understanding their needs and building enhanced customer experiences. The strong partnership between Perodua, its suppliers, and its dealers appears poised to continue fueling the brand’s dominance in the Malaysian automotive market.
