Volvo Malaysia has introduced its newly updated range of heavy-duty trucks, designed to elevate driver comfort, fuel efficiency and safety, while supporting Malaysia’s logistics industry. This launch aligns with the nation’s growth in global trade logistics. Malaysia currently ranks 26th globally, in the 2023 World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI). This is up from 41st spot in 2022.Volvo FM Globetrotter_Malaysia

“Safety, Quality and Sustainability or environmental care, are our core values at Volvo Trucks. Volvo Trucks remains passionate about delivering solutions that elevate safety for both drivers and operators across the transport industry. The presence of industry partners and government agencies here today indicate a genuine interest in innovative solutions that contribute to better safety for heavy-duty truck drivers and road users, as well as care for the environment. And this supports our strategy to introduce our newly updated Volvo heavy-duty trucks today,” said Volvo Trucks Southeast Asia and Japan Managing Director, Anna Engblom.

Advanced Features For Malaysia’s Logistics Needs

The updated range includes the Volvo FH, FM, and FMX models, each equipped with advanced design and technology to meet the demands of Malaysia’s unique logistics environment. The updates prioritise operating efficiency to help businesses achieve better savings. Key enhancements include:

  • Improved Aerodynamics: The Globetrotter cab design aerodynamics boosts fuel efficiency by up to 9%.
  • Enhanced Safety Systems: Standard Forward Collision Warning with automatic emergency braking and the integration of a trailer parking brake with the main parking brake system.
  • Cruise Control with I-See Technology: Smart cruise control adjusts speed and gear changes based on route topography, to optimise fuel efficiency.
  • Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS): Stabilises the vehicle under varying conditions to improve manoeuverability and safety.

Additionally, the new Camera Monitoring System (CMS) is an option available by Q2 2025. This system features infrared night vision which enables panning for enhanced vision around the truck, and blind spot reduction to further improve driving safety. The CMS external module is also another contributor to fuel efficiency besides helping to enhance safety. Volvo Trucks_Camera Monitoring System

Volvo Trucks also recently achieved a milestone in global safety recognition. Both the Volvo FH and FM trucks were awarded the top rating of 5 stars from Euro NCAP. “It is the first time ever Euro NCAP assessed the safety of heavy-duty trucks. This further reinforces our position as a leader in safety, the bedrock of trust among our customers,” Engblom said.

The scope of the truck test by Euro NCAP covered 3 key areas i.e. safe driving such as occupant monitoring and speed assistance; collision avoidance such as frontal collisions and low speed manoeuvring collisions; and post-crash, specifically rescue information. Volvo_FM_Side Bar_Lights

Driver-Centric Innovations

Recognising the demanding nature of heavy-duty trucking, Volvo has also upgraded its driver cabins with better ergonomic controls, more spacious resting areas, and improved in-cabin technology, including an upgraded audio system as well as an information display with 2 USB-C ports, making it 4 ports in total.

Safety enhancements, such as Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Support, Lane Change Support, Driver Alert Support and Trailer Connect Indicator are available from Volvo Trucks’ Safety+ package to further ensure a safer and more efficient driving experience.

Focus On Sustainability And Decarbonization

The updated models from Volvo Trucks comply with Euro 5 emissions standards, in support of Malaysia’s environmental goals outlined in the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030. The company also highlighted its alignment with the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation’s (MGTC) initiatives to promote low-emission vehicle technologies in the transport sector.

“We take this opportunity to thank our customers and industry partners for their continuous support and trust in Volvo Trucks. Keeping our ears to the ground is a crucial part of our industry-leading position. It enables us to support our customers and the industry as a whole,” said Engblom in her address at the launch which was graced by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Yang Berhormat Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Commitment To Industry Empowerment

Volvo Malaysia is also investing in driver training programmes to help drivers optimise the use of the new truck features. Additionally, its “Iron Women” initiative, launched in September 2024, aims to train and empower 100 women as heavy-duty truck drivers by the end of 2025. To-date, 5 women aged between 27 years and 40 years have graduated from the programme.
