Subaru Debuts Unique Kuala Lumpur Edition At Tokyo Auto Salon KL; Showcasing Malaysian Cultural Fusion
TC Subaru Sdn Bhd, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in Malaysia, is making a strong impression at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur, hosted at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), 8 to 10 November 2024.
Commemorating this is the launch of a special Kuala Lumpur Edition livery which features a blend of Malaysian culture and Japanese engineering. The bespoke livery was brought to life by local design studio Motorsport Playground and transforms the Subaru BRZ and Subaru WRX with intricate songket-inspired patterns, giving these high-performance vehicles a striking Malaysian identity.
Embracing the traditional art form of songket, the livery features symbolic geometric motifs with a unique twist i.e. the Sakura flower, emblematic of Japan, is replaced by Malaysia’s Bunga Raya, infusing the vehicles with local pride. This exclusive livery embodies the unity of Malaysian heritage with Subaru’s engineering expertise to create a masterpiece for the Malaysian motorsport enthusiast.
Adding to this is Subaru’s collaboration with renowned Malaysian streetwear brand, Pestle & Mortar Clothing (PMC) to introduce a limited-edition streetwear collection inspired by the dynamic fusion of Japanese precision and Malaysian creativity. The collection, which includes designs influenced by both Japanese automotive culture and Malaysian motifs, is crafted to appeal to both motorsport fans and style enthusiasts, offering a fresh take on cultural heritage through contemporary fashion.
To demonstrate Subaru’s commitment to performance, the brand held an adrenaline-filled time attack event at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit, where the stock Subaru BRZ and Subaru WRX took on the challenging full circuit under the expert setup of TD Racing. With professional racer Freddie Ang behind the wheel, the Subaru BRZ, equipped with a manual transmission, clocked an impressive time of 2:42:211, while the Subaru WRX with CVT registered a close 2:43:472. The event underscored the vehicles’ robust capabilities and high-performance potential, further highlighting Subaru’s engineering excellence.
The Subaru Tokyo Auto Salon: Kuala Lumpur Edition, along with the exclusive PMC apparel collection, will be available for purchase at the Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur at MITEC from 8 to 10 November 2024. This unique showcase underscores Subaru’s passion for innovation, cultural appreciation, and community engagement, presenting a celebration of Malaysian and Japanese craftsmanship and style.
