Chery Group Reaches 15 Million Vehicle Milestone With Global Roll-Off, Including Malaysia Production
Chery Group has reached a remarkable milestone with the production of its 15 millionth vehicle, marking the occasion with synchronized production line roll-offs across 4 countries i.e. Egypt, Brazil, Kazakhstan, and Malaysia. This achievement also emphasises Chery’s strengthening presence in Malaysia, a market that plays a pivotal role in Chery’s global expansion strategy.
As part of Chery’s growth across 5 continents, Malaysia has emerged as a key entry point for other right-hand drive markets, underlining the country’s significance in the brand’s strategy. With a 27-year history of advanced manufacturing and adherence to global standards, Chery’s commitment to innovation is highlighted by this global celebration, uniting drivers and markets worldwide, with Malaysia playing an integral role in the brand’s vision of innovation and excellence.
An event celebrating this achievement was held at Chery’s headquarters in Wuhu, China, with Chairman Yin Tongyue remarking, “Reaching 15 million vehicles is not just about increasing production numbers or accelerating Chery’s growth. It represents relentless innovation—turning the impossible into reality and pushing the possible into even greater potential.” Moving forward, Chery aims to focus on enhancing the user experience, refining advanced technology, and further boosting its global presence. The brand’s strategy centres on improving product quality, optimising its structure, and building brand value to offer consumers more exciting, diverse, and distinctive automotive options.
In Brazil, the milestone event highlighted the Chery Tiggo 8 model which rolled off the production line to mark the 15 millionth vehicle tally. Known for its global success, the Tiggo 8 series has adapted well to various market demands with its high-quality engineering and performance. The Tiggo 8 series has earned the trust of consumers worldwide, thriving in markets such as Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Ecuador. In Malaysia, the Tiggo 8 Pro, introduced at Chery’s 2023 launch, is locally assembled at the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah. This model has gained international acclaim, including receiving South Africa’s 2023 Motor Enthusiasts’ Choice award, Mexico’s Top Midsize SUV honor, and Best Midsize Crossover at the 19th Annual C! Awards in the Philippines. With over a million units sold, the Tiggo 8 series is a preferred choice of urban professionals for its mix of style, performance, and advanced features.
Chery’s sustained growth continues to set records. Since its first vehicle roll-off in 1999, Chery has held the title of China’s top passenger car exporter for 21 years, with a reach of over 100 countries. In 2024 alone, Chery sold 1,752,793 units from January to September, marking a 39.9% increase year-on-year. Of these, exports hit 829,353 units, a 24.5% year-on-year increase. This dual-track strategy covering domestic and international markets has helped accelerate Chery’s growth, with exports now representing nearly half of total sales.
Chery’s growth also extends across both internal combustion (ICE) and new energy vehicle (NEV) segments, with NEV sales experiencing an impressive 186% increase year-on-year. In comparison, its ICE vehicles sales saw a 24.9% growth. This balance of traditional and alternative energy vehicles demonstrates Chery’s adaptability in meeting evolving market needs and its commitment to driving innovation in various automotive categories.
