Powertrain & Chassis Upgrades
The 6th-generation Triton also introduces a new Hyperpower 4N16 diesel engine, offered in various output specifications to cater to different needs. The high-output 2.4L MIVEC 2-stage turbo Euro 5 version in the Triton Athlete boasts 204 PS (201 hp) @ 3,500 rpm and 470 Nm of torque @ 2,500 rpm for improved performance and efficiency. On the other hand, the other variants come with a Euro 4-compliant 2.4L turbo diesel engine delivering 184 PS (181 hp) @ 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque @ 2,500 rpm. Both 6-speed automatic with Sports mode and 6-speed manual transmissions are available, depending on the variant.
Built on a newly developed frame chassis, the all-new Triton’s structure has undergone rigorous testing to ensure exceptional durability. The redesigned frame features a 65% larger cross-sectional area, leading to a 40% increase in bending rigidity and a 60% improvement in torsional rigidity, while minimising weight through the use of high-tensile steel.
Advanced 4WD System & Suspension
Mitsubishi has refined the Triton’s 4WD capabilities, with the Athlete model further featuring the Super Select 4WD-II system, offering modes such as 2H, 4H (unique to Mitsubishi), 4HLc, and 4LLc. It is complemented by 7 drive modes to handle various terrains. Normal mode is available in all 4WD modes, while 2H offers Eco mode for prioritisation of economy, 4H offers Gravel and Snow modes, 4HLc (locked centre differential) offers Mud and Sand modes for traction performance, and 4LLc provides Rock mode, allowing you to select the optimum drive mode for any condition. The all-new Triton’s other variants equipped with Easy Select 4WD offer 2H (rear- wheel drive), 4H (locked center differential), and 4L (for low-gear driving) which provides essential drive modes for enhanced traction.
The Triton Athlete also introduces Active Yaw Control (AYC), a system that improves cornering stability by applying light braking to the inside front wheel, enhancing safety and driving dynamics on slippery surfaces. Alongside the new suspension setup, which delivers improved ride comfort and stability, these features ensure the all-new Triton remains a leader in off-road performance.
Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS) & Safety Features
Selected variants of the Triton include Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS), a comprehensive suite of advanced safety systems. Features such as Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert provide robust safety coverage.
Standard across all models are Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and Hill Start Assist (HSA), which together deliver a secure driving experience on various terrains.
“Beast Mode” Design
The Triton’s exterior adopts Mitsubishi’s “Beast Mode” design, combining a rugged look with modern touches. The front features Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield, with a bold grille and distinctive 3 L-shaped LED daytime running lights. At the rear, T-shaped taillights emphasise the vehicle’s wide stance, while the enlarged cargo bed offers practical utility for daily use.
Overall the new Triton has a larger body size than its predecessor. Sitting on a 3,130 mm wheelbase, the largest of the variants is the Triton Athlete which measures 5,360 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,815 mm tall. However, all variants share the same deck volume (1,555 mm x 1,545 mm x 525 mm) as well as fuel tank capacity (55L).
Modern & Functional Interior
Inside, the all-new Triton’s cabin gives a sense of modernity with clean lines and metallic accents. Functional elements such as a spacious glove box, smartphone holder, USB charging ports, and a wireless charger in the Triton Athlete contribute to a user-friendly experience. The double cab configuration also provides the comfort of an SUV while maintaining the utility expected from a pickup truck.
The Triton GL variants come with such features as 4-speaker audio system, 1x USB Type-A (front), 1x USB Type-A & 1 Type-C (rear), manual air-conditioning, 3-spoke urethane steering wheel (with tilt function only), urethane gear knob, powered windows with auto up/down and anti-pinch, fabric seats.
