MAN hTGX Hydrogen-Powered Truck Wins Prestigious Truck Innovation Award 2025

MAN Truck & Bus has once again earned international recognition for its groundbreaking advancements in commercial vehicle technology. The company’s hydrogen-powered MAN hTGX has been awarded the Truck Innovation Award 2025 by the International Truck of the Year (IToY) jury at the IAA Commercial Vehicles event. MAN hTGX_Hydrogen Truck_2025 Truck Innovation Award

Expanding Zero-Emission Solutions

The MAN hTGX, powered by a hydrogen combustion engine, complements the company’s existing battery-electric vehicle lineup, offering a versatile zero-emission option for heavy-duty applications. MAN Truck & Bus is the first European truck manufacturer to develop a small production series using hydrogen combustion, with deliveries scheduled for Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland, and select markets by 2025.

Dr. Frederik Zohm, Executive Board member for Research & Development at MAN Truck & Bus, emphasised the importance of the award and the role of the MAN hTGX in decarbonizing road freight transport. “By being classified as a zero-emission vehicle, the hTGX makes an important contribution to the decarbonisation of road freight transport,” said Zohm.

Recognised For Innovation

This marks the 3rd time MAN has secured the Truck Innovation Award. The company was previously recognised in 2024 for its pioneering work in autonomous driving with the ANITA and ATLAS-L4 projects, and in 2019, MAN’s automated construction site protection vehicle AFAS won the same accolade.

The IToY jury lauded the MAN hTGX for its diesel-like performance, robust handling, and impressive hydrogen-powered range of approximately 600 kilometers. The truck is equipped with a 16.8-liter H4576 6-cylinder hydrogen engine and features a 56-kilo hydrogen pressure tank with 700-bar capacity. Additionally, the vehicle boasts a simplified exhaust gas treatment system, reducing environmental impact even further.MAN_hTGX_Hydrogen_Truck

Versatile Zero-Emission Truck For Specialised Markets

The hydrogen-powered MAN hTGX is designed for demanding applications, such as construction, timber, and tanker transport, where high payload and long-range capabilities are essential. It will be available in 6×2 and 6×4 axle configurations, enabling a maximum range of up to 600 kilometers. For regions lacking sufficient charging infrastructure for battery-electric trucks or those with established hydrogen refueling networks, the hTGX provides a viable zero-emission alternative.

The engine, based on MAN’s D38 diesel unit, will be produced in the company’s Nuremberg engine and battery plant.
