Mitsubishi Xpander Facelift Launched In Malaysia
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has launched the facelifted Mitsubishi Xpander, this time offering 2 variants i.e. Xpander (RM99,980) and Xpander Plus (RM109,980). The stated prices (on-the-road, without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia) are introductory prices for registrations by 31 December 2024. Subsequently, the prices could be revised for 2025. Furthermore, early bird buyers can benefit from additional incentives, with the first 500 customers who book and register the Xpander through the Mitsubishi Online Showroom receiving a Naturehike Camping Wagon worth RM400. Both variants come with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty for long-term peace of mind.
The locally assembled Mitsubishi Xpander is considered Malaysia’s best-selling non-national MPV. The updated Xpander boasts enhancements in both design and functionality. Its exterior styling reflects sophistication and practicality, with Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield front design featuring a newly integrated horizontal bumper and 3-dimensional skid plate. Another notable change in this facelift is the new T-shaped LED headlights. The T-shape theme is also duplicated for the LED tail lights.
The Xpander’s body measures 4,475 mm long, 1,750 mm wide, and 1,730 mm tall, and sits on a 2,775 mm wheelbase. Its ground clearance of 225 mm (up 20 mm from the previous) is the best in class and ensures good clearance for various terrains as well as submerged roads. The obvious differences on the exterior between the 2 variants are the silver (Xpander Plus variant) vs black accent trims on the bumpers, as well as the black roof spoiler that is exclusive to the Plus. Both variants run on 17″ alloy wheels with 205/55 tyres. Additionally, the windshield is covered with a sound insulation film.
Inside, the facelift gets a redesigned dashboard and centre console. And with that comes a new steering wheel (with tilt & telescopic options), climate control interface as well as an electronic parking brake button to replace the previous handbrake lever, and frees up more space. Both variants come with a 9″ touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as 6 speakers. Also standard across both variants are the storage drawer under the front passenger seat, rear air vents, one-touch tumble 2nd row seats that also slide and recline, reclining 3rd row seats, and cruise control. Further, boot space is 495 litres with the 3rd row seats folded (flat folding).
On the performance side, the Mitsubishi Xpander is powered by a 1.5L MIVEC petrol engine which generates 105 PS (104 hp) @ 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. Built with an aluminum block for reduced weight and increased efficiency, the engine is paired with a smooth 4-speed automatic transmission. According to MMM, the choice of sticking with a conventional auto gearbox as opposed to a CVT is mainly for robustness and ease of maintenance, and is more preferred by its target buyers. The meter cluster has also been redesigned with high-contrast graphics for better readability.
As for safety kit, both Xpander variants use the Mitsubishi’s RISE body with extra rigid frame, with side impact door beams, and has 2 airbags. However, the Xpander Plus adds on an all-round monitor (reverse camera only for the standard Xpander), front and rear digital driving recorders, door visors, leatherette upholstery, interior scuff plates, and wireless charger.
“With an SUV-like driving experience, the newly updated 7-seater Xpander crossover is meticulously crafted to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction. From its sleek design to its versatile capabilities, the Xpander is crafted to meet the diverse needs of modern families and adventurous individuals alike,” said Shinya Ikeda, Chief Executive Officer of MMM.
Ikeda added, “Since its Open-for-Booking announcement on 12 September 2024, the Mitsubishi Xpander has received positive response. MMM would like to thank all its customers for showing overwhelming interest in the 2024 Mitsubishi Xpander. We will try our utmost effort on production to honour these early bird customers as much as possible.”
MMM is currently represented by 61 showrooms (with 8 being 4S) and 61 service nationside. In East Malaysia, MMM has 16 showrooms (8 in Sarawak and 8 in Sabah). According to Ikeda, “By 2025, we plan to open four more outlets, reaching a total of 65 to meet growing demand and improve customer experience.”
In conjunction with the Xpander launch, MMM is hosting a series of roadshows and showroom events nationwide as part of its “Drive Your Ambition Brand Festival,” allowing customers to explore the new Xpander’s stylish design and updated features firsthand.
